Location: Charlotte, NC (Onsite Travel)
Employment Type: Full-Time | Direct Hire
Compensation: $150,000 – $200,000 annually (DOE)
Additional Compensation: Discretionary annual bonus mileage reimbursement
Position Overview
Wheeler Staffing Partners is seeking a Director of Construction Operations to lead and oversee field operations across large-scale healthcare construction projects throughout North and South Carolina. This role is responsible for driving operational excellence, ensuring safety, schedule, budget, and quality standards are consistently met across multiple project sites.
This is a high-impact leadership role requiring extensive experience in hospital construction, MEP systems, and large-scale project delivery, along with a strong background in developing and implementing standard operating procedures.
Key Responsibilities
Operations Leadership & Strategy
- Lead and oversee field operations across multiple $10M healthcare construction projects
- Align project execution with organizational goals, ensuring consistency in processes and performance
- Drive operational efficiency through standardized workflows, tools, and best practices
Safety & Compliance
- Champion a culture of safety and ensure compliance with OSHA and industry standards
- Implement safety programs, training initiatives, and risk mitigation strategies
- Monitor safety performance and drive continuous improvement
Project Execution & Oversight
- Ensure projects are delivered on time, within budget, and to quality standards
- Provide guidance on scheduling, resource allocation, and project planning
- Identify and mitigate risks across all phases of construction
Quality Assurance
- Establish and enforce quality control standards and inspection procedures
- Oversee documentation, testing, and resolution of quality-related issues
- Ensure adherence to project specifications and regulatory requirements
Subcontractor & Vendor Management
- Support subcontractor selection, negotiations, and performance evaluations
- Build and maintain strong relationships with vendors and subcontractors
- Mitigate risks related to subcontractor performance and project delivery
Team Leadership & Development
- Lead, mentor, and develop Project Managers and Superintendents
- Foster a high-performing, collaborative team environment
- Support training, coaching, and career development initiatives
Client & Stakeholder Engagement
- Serve as a key point of contact for clients and stakeholders
- Ensure client expectations are met throughout the project lifecycle
- Support business development and long-term client relationships
Qualifications
Education
- Bachelor’s Degree in Construction Management, Engineering, Architecture, or related field
Experience
- 15 years of experience managing large, complex commercial construction projects ($10M )
- 5 years in a leadership role overseeing multiple projects or teams
- Strong experience in healthcare or hospital construction (mission-critical experience preferred)
- Background in MEP systems, mechanical contracting, and superintendent-level field operations
- Experience developing and implementing SOPs for safety, planning, and quality

- Strong leadership, communication, and stakeholder management skills
- Advanced knowledge of construction operations, scheduling, and financial performance
- Proven ability to manage complex, multi-project environments
- Strong problem-solving, negotiation, and decision-making abilities
- Proficiency in project management and scheduling tools
Work Environment & Travel
- 50%–75% travel to project sites across North and South Carolina
- Combination of active construction sites and office environment
- Ability to stand, walk, and perform physical site activities as needed
