Content & Visual Specialist

What We Watch
California, CA Contractor
POSTED ON 7/31/2026 CLOSED ON 8/6/2026

What are the responsibilities and job description for the Content & Visual Specialist position at What We Watch?

ONLY APPLICANTS BASED IN PACIFIC, MOUNTAIN, OR CENTRAL TIME ZONES WILL BE CONSIDERED FOR THIS ROLE.

Company Description What We Watch is a media-focused company dedicated to exploring, curating, and celebrating visual storytelling across film, television, and digital platforms. The team combines creative insight with audience data to highlight what viewers are watching and why it matters. What We Watch values collaboration, innovation, and clear communication to deliver engaging, high-quality content. The company offers an environment where creative professionals can experiment, refine their craft, and contribute to a growing brand presence. Team members are encouraged to bring fresh perspectives and a strong visual sensibility to help shape the company’s voice.

Role Overview:

A focused, short-term contract role dedicated to mining What We Watch's six-plus years of archival footage — festival appearances, press coverage, industry spaces, private screenings, and moderated Q&As — into a steady, high-volume stream of short-form clips. This person works autonomously, exercising editorial judgment to identify and cut provocative, viral-worthy moments from the library without needing daily direction. This is a self-starter role: someone who can absorb the brand voice quickly and run with it.

Primary Functions:

  • Independently source, edit, and publish 2-3 short-form clips per day, 7 days a week, across IG, TikTok, YouTube Shorts, and X
  • Exercise editorial judgment to identify the most provocative, shareable, or viral-worthy moments from the archive
  • Absorb and apply What We Watch's brand voice and visual style without close oversight
  • Maintain a rolling content buffer so all posts are finalized at least one week ahead
  • Surface any standout finds or shifts in direction during the weekly check-in

Day-to-Day Tasks:

  • Review the content library and select footage worth cutting
  • Edit 2-3 clips daily with captions, overlays, and pacing suited to each platform
  • Schedule/publish clips a week ahead of posting date (no same-week turnarounds)
  • Track what's been used to avoid repeats
  • Join a weekly async or brief live check-in for brand-standards feedback and any pivots

Qualifications:

  • 3 years of short-form/social video editing experience
  • Demonstrated ability to work independently with minimal supervision — this is not a role for someone who needs frequent sign-off
  • Strong instinct for what makes a moment "clip-worthy" or shareable
  • Proficiency in CapCut, Premiere Pro, or similar
  • Comfortable maintaining a buffer/pipeline rather than day-of production
  • Entertainment/pop culture fluency a plus, to help identify what will resonate

Compensation & Growth Path:

  • Bi-Weekly compensation for the 2-month contract
  • October Seen on the Scene festival: separate day-of compensation for on-site coverage, to be discussed based on performance
  • Extension: strong performance may lead to a contract extension beyond the initial 2 months
