We’re looking for a Licensed Professional Land Surveyor (PLS) to join our team and play a key role in managing and delivering high-quality surveying services.
Role Description
This is a full-time, on-site role based in Birmingham, AL. The Professional Land Surveyor will be responsible for overseeing survey projects from start to finish — including field coordination, boundary analysis, quality control, and final deliverables. This role bridges field and office operations, ensuring accuracy, compliance, and efficiency across all phases of work.
Job Duties
Typical responsibilities include, but are not limited to:
- Manage and oversee a variety of survey projects including boundary, ALTA/NSPS, topographic, and construction layout
- Provide professional oversight of field crews, ensuring accuracy, efficiency, and adherence to company standards
- Review and certify survey deliverables, including plats, legal descriptions, and reports
- Perform boundary analysis, deed research, and resolve complex survey issues
- Ensure compliance with state regulations, standards of practice, and client requirements
- Coordinate with project managers, clients, and internal teams to keep projects on schedule and within scope
- Implement and maintain quality control procedures for both field and office work
- Mentor and develop field and office staff, supporting their technical growth
- Utilize and guide the use of advanced survey technologies, including robotic total stations, GPS, LiDAR, and UAS/drone platforms
- Represent Weygand professionally in client interactions and on project sites
Qualifications
- Active Professional Land Surveyor (PLS) license (Alabama preferred or ability to obtain through reciprocity or continued education)
- 5 years of progressive experience in land surveying, including project oversight
- Strong knowledge of boundary law, survey principles, and ALTA/NSPS standards
- Experience reviewing and certifying survey work products
- Proficiency with survey equipment and software (Trimble, Carlson, or similar)
- Experience with UAS/drone and LiDAR technologies is a plus
- Strong leadership, communication, and organizational skills
- Detail-oriented with a commitment to accuracy and quality
- Ability to manage multiple projects and deadlines effectively
