We're looking for a driven Field Crew Chief to join our team and help lead our field operations.
Role Description
This is a full-time, on-site role for a Survey Crew Chief at our Birmingham, AL location. The Survey Crew Chief will lead field survey teams in performing a variety of land surveying tasks. Responsibilities include conducting topographic, boundary, and ALTA surveys, using advanced equipment like total stations and GPS. The role also involves ensuring data accuracy, managing team schedules, coordinating with project managers, and adhering to project timelines and safety protocols.
Job Duties
Typical job duties include, but are not necessarily limited to:
- Run field crews on a variety of survey types including boundary, ALTA/NSPS, topographic, and construction layout
- Operate robotic total stations, data collectors (Carlson, Trimble, or similar), and UAS/drone platforms
- Establish and verify survey control, locate monuments, and capture precise field measurements
- Complete thorough, accurate field notes and communicate clearly with our in-house drafting team
- Troubleshoot field conditions and make sound decisions to keep projects on track
- Represent Weygand professionally on every job site
Qualifications
- 2–5 years of field experience in land surveying, with demonstrated ability to lead in the field
- Proficiency with robotic total stations and data collectors (Carlson, Trimble, or similar)
- Experience with or exposure to UAS/drone platforms is a strong plus
- Ability to read and interpret deeds, plats, and legal descriptions
- Strong communication skills — you'll be the bridge between the field and the office
- A problem-solving mindset and comfort with technology
- Reliable, self-directed, and safety-conscious — you take ownership of your work
