MAINTENANCE STAFF MEMBER
Westside School is seeking a dependable and proactive Maintenance Staff member to help maintain the safety, cleanliness, and functionality of our campus. This position performs semi-skilled maintenance and repair work on school facilities, grounds, and equipment, and supports daily operations through cleaning, upkeep, and logistical support. The ideal candidate will demonstrate reliability, attention to detail, and the ability to work independently as well as part of a team.
- Start Date: August 18, 2025
- Reports to: Facilities Manager
- Hours: 20-25 hours/week
Shifts will be scheduled within the school’s operational day (7:00 AM – 6:00 PM) and may vary based on school needs. Typical shifts fall between 7:00–11:00 AM or 2:00–6:00 PM. Flexibility is important, and schedules will be communicated in advance whenever possible.
Key Responsibilities Include:
General Maintenance
- Perform daily work aligned with school schedules and standard procedures
- Conduct routine maintenance and repairs on building systems, including plumbing and electrical
- Support preventive maintenance and troubleshooting for HVAC, lighting, and fixtures
- Assemble and move furniture for classrooms, offices, and events
- Address minor carpentry, electrical, mechanical, and plumbing needs
- Monitor safety hazards and respond promptly
- Assist with locking/unlocking of doors and building security protocols
Cleaning and Upkeep
- Support daily cleaning and sanitation of restrooms, classrooms, and shared spaces
- Replenish cleaning supplies as needed
- Ensure outdoor areas and walkways remain clean and safe
- Set up and break down furniture and equipment for school events
Physical Requirements
- Ability to lift and carry up to 50 lbs safely and consistently
- Perform repetitive physical tasks, including standing, bending, reaching, and moving equipment
- Maintain safe practices during all physical tasks
Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:
- Knowledge of basic building systems (plumbing, electrical, HVAC) and facility maintenance procedures
- Familiarity with safety protocols and ability to identify and address maintenance-related safety concerns
- Skill in operating standard custodial and maintenance tools and equipment
- Ability to prioritize tasks, manage time efficiently, and adapt to changing priorities
- Ability to follow written and verbal instructions and maintain accurate records/logs
- Strong customer service and interpersonal skills when interacting with staff, students, and visitors
- Commitment to teamwork, flexibility, and reliability in a school setting
- Ability to work independently and exercise good judgment with minimal supervision
- Skill in communicating effectively, orally and in writing.
- Ability to use sound judgement and work independently.
- Ability to have consistent, prompt and punctual attendance.
Qualifications:
- High school diploma or equivalent
- Prior experience with custodial work, facility maintenance, or related trades preferred
- Basic knowledge of standard tools and maintenance procedures
- Ability to follow written and verbal instructions
- Strong teamwork and communication skills
- Punctual, reliable, and able to work independently
- Commitment to maintaining a safe, clean, and welcoming school environment
Compensation and Benefits
This is a part-time, hourly position for the 2025-2026 school year. $26.00 - $28.00/hour
