Cutting Operator

Nighshift

Summary:

Responsible for daily operation of cutters while maintaining production numbers, quality, and safety. Maintain housekeeping and 5S to standards set by management. Follow all WestRock Core Values and Behaviors. Additional job duties as assigned by department manager.

Safety:

• Required – PPE must be worn while on your job. At a minimum safety glass, steel toe shoes and hearing protection. Gloves are always required on the production floor and warehouses. Please see Appendix A and Appendix B (Conover Specific) attached to the WestRock Glove Policy (CompliantPro). Bump cap per company policy.
• Required – All safety policies and guidelines must be followed. Required – Comply with safety participation program.
• Required – “Let’s talk safety” We use this phrase as a safety intervention and our employees want you to look out after your fellow employees so that they do not get hurt on the job.
• Required – S.T.E.P. (Stop, Think, Evaluate and Plan) Required – Safety Absolutes

Training:

Training requirements for this position are maintained in the Training Module of Compliant Pro.

Compliance with all workplace rules, policies and procedures, i.e. SQF, safety.

Protective Equipment Required: Safety glasses, hair nets, beard nets, composite/steel toe shoes, ear plugs, bump caps and gloves per glove policy.

• Testing and Measuring Ability (General Math): Ability to use and read basic measurement devices, (calculator, tape measure, and ruler.) Learn to operate score bend. Lift truck certification and pallet jack operation. General mechanical aptitude. Pass Farnsworth Munsel-100 Hue Test.
• Written/Verbal Communications Skills: Must follow detailed instructions for training and quality.
• Computer Skills: Basic computer skills.
• Knowledge of Cartons: Perform quality checks on cartons being processed.

Essential/Marginal Functions and Physical Requirements

Essential: Load and unload skids, walking up and down stairs. Use air hoses daily. Sweep and clean press area daily.

Marginal: Drive two motors (certification required). Sweep press daily, take out trash, and sweep under cassette.

Expectations/Guidelines:

• Determine priorities.
• Pre-make ready as required.
• Make-ready as required.
• Perform general maintenance of the cutting presses.
• Perform daily operation of the cutting department by staging loads to be cut.
• Enter production in computer.
• Check one carton per die position on each load for correct cut and register.
• Support plant policies and initiatives. • Increase department wide communication (particularly using e-mail)
• Plan MR’s and run speeds in advance and report successes for failures
• Understands the department’s key goals and gives feedback on progress or the lack thereof.
