    Description:
    The BCBA is a district-level behavioral consultant providing evidence-based behavior analytic guidance and support within public school settings, with an emphasis on consultation, capacity building, and collaboration with multidisciplinary teams, consistent with Connecticut's professional standards for BCBAs in schools. The BCBA works primarily in an indirect, consultative role, supporting teams (teachers, special educators, school psychologists, administrators, related service providers) in meeting the needs of students with autism and other complex behavioral needs, including those in intensive resource room programs.
    Qualifications:
    • Master's degree or higher in behavior analysis, special education, psychology, or related field.
    • Current BCBA certification and currently holds and/or is eligible for CT license (LBA) per state requirements.
    • Knowledge of special education law (IDEA) and multidisciplinary collaboration.
    • Experience supporting students with complex behavioral needs, including autism, in educational settings is preferred.
    Reports To: Assistant Superintendent for Pupil Services or Designee
    Compensation: Competitive salary based on experience and credentials, consistent with similar districts in the region.

    Essential Duties & Responsibilities
    • Assessment & Data-Informed Decision Making
    • Lead or support teams in conducting Functional Behavioral Assessments (FBAs) and other relevant assessments (e.g., ecological or preference assessments, school refusal) to understand behavior in the context of education.
    • Assist teams with data collection systems and analysis to inform decision making and monitor intervention effectiveness.

    Consultation & Collaboration
    • Consult regularly with classroom teachers, special educators, school psychologists, related service staff, to integrate behavior analytic practices into instruction and programming.
    • Act as a partner in problem-solving teams, including IEP/PPT teams, to define roles and responsibilities based on student needs.
    • Support teams' understanding of behavior within instructional and environmental contexts.
    • Collaborate with caregivers and outside providers to support continuity of programming across settings.

    Intervention & Capacity Building
    • Offer coaching, modeling, and professional development on behavior support strategies and best practices for certified and non-certified staff.
    • Assist in developing and refining Behavior Intervention Plans (BIPs) that align with data and educational goals.
    • Help integrate behavior analytic strategies into classroom and school systems, focusing on capacity building such that the implementation is sustainable and done with fidelity.
    • Systems & Classroom Support
    • Support schoolwide and districtwide initiatives such as Response to Intervention, and school climate improvement, as aligned with district goals.
    • Work collaboratively with other professionals to ensure interventions are instructional, contextually appropriate, and maintain least restrictive environments (LRE) for students.

    Professional Standards & Ethical Practice
    • Follow the BACB ethics code and Connecticut standards of professional practice.
    • Ensure all work is within the BCBA's scope of competence; roles outside scope should not be included.
    • Maintain documentation that supports evaluation of effectiveness and compliance with IDEA, state, and district standards.
