- Knowledge of safety issues affecting the staff, students, visitors and the facility.
- Two to five years of experience in custodial, general maintenance and grounds work and the knowledge of related materials and tools used in such work.
- Knowledge of waste and recycling procedures.
- Knowledge of inventory control procedures.
- Supervisory experience preferred.
- Needs to have managerial experience in the custodial/maintenance field
- Required to pass a pre-employment physical.
- Must possess full range of body motion, including reaching, stooping, kneeling, climbing and walking, including manual dexterity.
- Must be able to lift/carry items weighing up to 75 lbs.
- Must be able to stand for extended periods of time.
- Must be able to operate motorized equipment.
- Must be able to understand/follow basic safety precautions involved in the operation of hand tools, power tools and machinery.
- Must use all personal safety items provided.
- Complete cleaning, if needed, of any scheduled area not completed during the second or third shifts the night before/
- Communicate with the principal (and Assistant Principals and staff when required) in a timely manner concerning all pertinent issues, including vandalism.
- Responsible for meeting room set ups.
- Responsible for setting up the auditorium for special activities.
- Monitor boiler plant operation and the security of the school building.
- Monitor the timely replacement of filters throughout the building.
- Inspect and clean out the roof drains, as needed.
- Conduct drain maintenance throughout the school.
- Monitor exit lights and emergency lights and replace bulbs when needed; report problems to supervisor.
- Responsible for snow removal as required (using snow blowers and hand shovels).
- Assign and maintain equal distribution of overtime for custodians, based on Article VI of the custodial and maintenance contract; schedule and supervise staff for overtime, special events, and general usage of the facility.
- Monitor all exit doors to insure that they are closed throughout the day. Keep boiler and storage rooms neat and clean.
- Assist in the repair, assembly and installation of locks, latches, furniture, blinds, shades, curtains, floor and wall coverings and ceiling tiles.
- Manage the delivery and receipt of all materials, equipment and tools.
- Maintained specified grass areas, including mowing, edging, weeding, and watering.
- Assist in maintenance of lawn mowers and related equipment.
- Perform finishing tasks, including drywall and plaster repair, minor masonry repairs, minor plumbing repairs, varnishing, staining and painting small areas, and other tasks as needed.
- Repair minor fixtures, including venetian blinds, shades, drape/curtain rods, window cords, storm windows and screens, map and movie screens, desks, tables and other furnishings.
- Perform overtime and on-call coverage including Saturdays, Sundays, and holidays as needed.
- Evaluation of individual cleaning techniques.
- Responsible for progressive discipline of staff.
- Maintain complete and accurate records and documentation.
