REQUIRED KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS AND ABILITY:
- Knowledge of studio arts and gallery coordination
- Ability to plan, develop, implement, publicize and evaluate visual art programs, events, art exhibits
- Ability to manage financial accounts and basic revenue/ expense bookkeeping
- Ability to manage volunteers and contract employees
- Proficient verbal and written communication skills and ability to speak publicly in front of
- Good working knowledge of Microsoft Office programs, including Excel, Word, Power Point, Outlook,
- Knowledge of and ability to use and/or oversee art, craft and woodworking equipment and safety,
- Ability to make decisions and choices independently
- Ability to deal tactfully with residents, staff, contracted instructors, venue personnel, visitors and the
- Ability to lead and motivate residents to explore new experiences to enhance quality of life
- Familiarity with recreational and art resources/artist/ art educators in the Richmond area
- Experience coordinating and developing arts programming
- Experience executing art exhibits
- Bachelor’s Degree in Recreation or related field or combination education and experience to fulfill the
- Experience working in recreation, arts or related field
- CPR, AED and First Aid Certification
- Active participation in a professional organization or association related to recreation/arts/education
- Experience planning arts workshops, exhibits, programs and events
- Experience working in a retirement community
- Exhibit excellent customer service and interpersonal skills: patience, compassion, tactfulness, and
- Ability to make sound decisions based on objective analysis of a situation when under pressure and/or
- Embrace and show compassion through patience with and understanding of residents
- Create a high-performance work environment in which staff works together to complete tasks

Major Accountabilities/Essential Job Duties
- Plan, develop, coordinate, publicize and evaluate visual art and woodshop programs, classes and
- Teaches and instructs classes in absence of instructors or to teach particular techniques
- Coordinate the contract art instructors hiring, supervision and compensation for instruction of
- Assess recreation visual arts expenses to include supplies, trips, programs, events, exhibits, supply
available to bring quality creative opportunities to Westminster Canterbury Richmond
- Execute the annual Fall Craft Fair and/or other opportunities such as pop-up tables from start to
- Coordinate with small crafts instructors to plan and assist with crafting projects including a focus
- Communicate and work with resident committees, recreation staff and other departments in
- Oversee and manage the campus wide Permanent Art Collection and campus galleries
- Participate and consult with staff and designers through the Design Committee in the selection of
- Active member of the Gift Acceptance Committee of the Foundation
- Work with Volunteer Department to secure appropriate community and resident volunteers to
- Support the overall vision of cultural arts at Westminster Canterbury by working collaboratively
- with other departments
