What are the responsibilities and job description for the Electro-Mechanical Panel Wiring Technician position at Westinghouse Electric - USA?
A day in this role
Walk onto the floor at our Westinghouse facility in Shoreview, MN and get hands-on with real builds. In this full-time, 100% onsite position (scope aligned to an Electrical Assembler II), you'll interpret electrical schematics, wire simple circuits, and bring control panels to life. You'll mark components with laser engraving, apply labels with care, and move materials safely via forklift as you progress through each assembly.
What you'll do
- Use a digital multimeter to verify circuits and continuity, solder with a gun, crimp wire lugs, and neatly route wiring.
- Build from electrical schematics and wiring diagrams; collaborate with Engineers to resolve design questions.
- Spot non-conformances during builds and partner with Quality Control to resolve them.
- Fabricate enclosures and parts by drilling/tapping metal; bend and thread electrical conduit.
- Contribute to panel building and motor control station work, including wiring or troubleshooting AC/DC motors.
- Support PLC-related tasks such as wiring and basic programming exposure.
- Operate forklifts as needed to stage and move materials.
Tools, materials, and details
- Hand and power tools including drills, screwdrivers, cutting tools, wire strippers, crimpers, and digital multimeters.
- Wiring work primarily in the 18 AWG to 10 AWG range; soldering commonly in the 18 AWG to 14 AWG range.
- Panel building, labeling, and laser engraving as part of standard work.
What you bring
- High school diploma or equivalent.
- 2 years of relevant electrical assembly experience.
- Technical schooling related to the electrical industry and an understanding of electrical theory.
- Experience wiring from schematics/diagrams and comfort with PLC wiring or programming exposure.
- Background with motor control stations and AC/DC motor wiring or troubleshooting.
- Mechanical aptitude with the ability to assemble and fabricate, including drilling/tapping metal and conduit bending/threading.
Where you'll work
Onsite at the Westinghouse Shoreview, MN facility, reporting to the Manufacturing Supervisor.
Compensation
We are committed to transparency and equity in all of our people practices. The hourly rate for this position, which is dependent upon experience, qualifications and skills, is estimated to be $23.40 to $27.90 per hour.
