Position Summary
The Utility Cleaner is responsible for maintaining a clean, safe, and efficient back-of-house environment throughout the resort. This role supports all culinary operations by ensuring kitchens, dish rooms, storage areas, and equipment are consistently sanitized, organized, and ready for use. The Utility Cleaner plays a key role in helping our resort deliver Westin’s high standards of cleanliness and service.

Essential Duties & Responsibilities
Back-of-House Cleaning & Sanitation
- Clean, sanitize, and maintain all kitchen areas including floors, walls, drains, and work surfaces.
- Deep-clean heavy-duty equipment such as ovens, fryers, grills, steamers, and kettles.
- Maintain cleanliness in coolers, freezers, dry storage, and prep rooms.
- Clean and detail loading dock, trash areas, recycling center, and compost spaces.
- Pressure-wash designated areas when scheduled.
Dish Room Support
- Assist dishwashers as needed with organizing and returning clean wares.
- Clean and maintain dish machines, scrubbing filters and ensuring proper operation.
- Transport wares to assigned outlets and banquet areas.
Equipment & Chemical Handling
- Utilize proper chemicals, PPE, and cleaning equipment following MSDS guidelines.
- Safely operate utility equipment (floor scrubber, buffer, pressure washer, wet vac, etc.).
- Report any equipment malfunction to leadership immediately.
Resort-Wide Support
- Assist Banquets, Restaurants, and Pool Kitchens with BOH cleanliness and trash pick-ups.
- Break down cardboard, maintain compactor areas, and follow recycling protocols.
- Support culinary team with cleanliness before, during, and after events.
Standards & Compliance
- Follow all Westin and Marriott sanitation, HACCP, and safety standards.
- Maintain a clean and professional appearance in line with grooming policies.
- Complete daily checklists and report tasks accurately to management.
Qualifications
- Previous utility, stewarding, or janitorial experience preferred but not required.
- Ability to lift, push, and pull up to 50 lbs.
- Comfortable working in a fast-paced, physically demanding environment.
- Able to work mornings, nights, weekends, and holidays as required.
