ASSISTANT PRINCIPAL OF BAC (BEFORE AND AFTER CARE) and
EARLY LEARNING CENTER
Reports to: Director of Early Learning Programs
Terms: 247 days, 7.5 hour per day
Overall Area: Assist the director of early learning programs in all areas related to before and after school care (BAC) as well as supporting the early learning center (to include, but not limited to, discipline, attendance, clinical supervision, special education support, curriculum development, and building management).
Essential Functions:
A. Act as the administrator of BAC during the school year, breaks, and summer.
1. Help schedule staff for BAC.
2. Provide support for issues concerning BAC.
3. Supervise the BAC Administrative Assistant and BAC staff.
4. Be available to work outside of normal school hours to support BAC.
B. Assist the director in supervising and evaluating the job performance of all BAC and ELC staff members.
1. Direct the work of the BAC and ELC employees.
2. Provide guidance, motivation, and encouragement to BAC and ELC staff members so that they may excel in their jobs.
3. Provide positive corrections for personnel when their behavior warrants such action.
4. Evaluate BAC and ELC personnel as assigned by the director.
C. Assist the director in providing leadership and support to both faculty and students for the BAC and ELC programs.
1. Develop and coordinate the instructional components of the BAC program.
2. Assist in the preparation of the master schedule for staff and students in BAC and ELC.
3. Provide professional development and monthly staff meetings for BAC and ELC staff.
D. Assist the director in administering the BAC program in accordance with Board-approved policies, administrative procedures and State statutes.
1. Develop the school's calendar for BAC in consideration with the corporate-wide calendar.
2. Direct and ensure that policies and administrative procedures are enforced.
E. Assist the director in providing an effective and efficient BAC operation.
1. Hire BAC staff members and manage staff roster.
2. Assist in the administering of 504 procedures in BAC.
3. Communicate regularly with parents.
F. Supervise student discipline at the ELC and in BAC.
1. Investigate and take appropriate action for student misconduct.
2. Confer with BAC staff or ELC staff on discipline matters.
3. Develop procedures and guidelines for all staff members to use to ensure consistency in discipline: revise and update the behavior policy.
4. Recommend suspension and expulsion of students in accordance with the BAC and ELC Behavior Policy.
5. Communicate behavior concerns with parents.
G. Perform all duties which are necessary to ensure the proper functioning of the educational programs and services in the Corporation and which are related to the position of the Assistant Principal.
1. Assume administrative responsibilities and authorities of the principal in his/her absence.
2. Attend administrative meetings and other professional meetings as requested by the principal.
3. Maintain membership in professional organizations.
4. Responsible for supervision in the cafeteria.
5. Assist with the development of the Master Schedule.
6. Act as the Public Agency Rep (PAR) for special education conferences.
7. Build relationships with building principals and become familiar with building procedures.
8. Attend Basic School Safety Specialist training or have the certification and supervise all required drills.
H. Perform all other duties which are necessary to ensure the proper functioning of educational programs at ELC and BAC services in the Corporation which are related to the position of Assistant Director.
