Position Summary
The Design Engineer will be responsible for the design and development of new products across multiple categories. This role requires a strong technical foundation, creativity, and the ability to translate market needs into efficient, manufacturable, and cost-effective products. Working closely with Product Managers, Designers, and global suppliers, the Design Engineer will drive projects from concept through commercialization, including CAD design, prototyping, product documentation, and testing. This is a full-time, in-office position based in Indianapolis, Indiana and is not remote or hybrid. The position includes regular collaboration with overseas factories and requires international travel.
Key Responsibilities
- Partner with Product Managers and Designers to develop innovative products that meet market demand and financial objectives.
- Create 2D and 3D CAD models and drawings that align with customer requirements and manufacturing capabilities.
- Research and recommend new materials, technologies, and development methods.
- Lead and manage product testing and approval processes to ensure compliance with company and industry standards.
- Deliver product milestones on time and in line with project timelines.
- Develop and maintain detailed product specifications and engineering documentation.
- Define key factory specifications and collaborate with suppliers to ensure product quality, durability, and consistency.
- Build and evaluate prototypes, conducting physical tests to validate performance.
- Ensure components and assemblies meet all relevant industry and internal standards.
- Travel internationally (primarily to Asia) 3–4 times per year to work with factories and suppliers.
Qualifications
- Bachelor’s degree in Engineering required.
- 1–3 years of experience in product development or engineering.
- Proficiency in CAD software (SolidWorks, Creo, or similar); Adobe Creative Suite experience is a plus.
- Strong problem-solving, communication, and organizational skills.
- Self-motivated with the ability to manage multiple projects simultaneously.
- Willingness and ability to travel internationally 3–4 times annually (10–14 days per trip).
- Knowledge or passion for outdoor sporting goods categories strongly preferred.
- This position is based in our Indianapolis, Indiana office and requires daily on-site presence. Remote or hybrid arrangements are not available.
