Westfield Gas Electric/ Whip City Fiber is accepting applications for the position of Desktop Technician. The ideal candidate will be a skilled and customer-oriented Desktop Technician to support our organization’s day-to-day IT operations. This role is responsible for supporting approximately 130 end users across departments and ensuring a secure, efficient, and well-supported desktop computing environment. $65,133 Minimum - $95,052 Maximum
Responsibilities include, but are not limited to:
· Provide Tier 1 and Tier 2 technical support for desktops, laptops, mobile devices, printers, office phones / headsets and other peripherals.
· Install, configure, and maintain Windows-based computers and software applications, including Microsoft 365.
· Manage user accounts, passwords, through Active Directory.
· Maintain and manage the Helpdesk ticketing system: log and categorize tickets, assign tasks to appropriate personnel or departments, and ensure timely follow-up and resolution for end users.
· Respond promptly and professionally to support requests, escalating complex issues as needed.
· In conjunction with the Information Security Analyst, maintain the security of endpoints through antivirus management, Windows updates, patching, and encryption.
· Assist with onboarding and offboarding of employees, including the provisioning and de-provisioning of hardware, software, and user access.
· End user and vendor support and troubleshooting of remote access technologies, including standard practices for VPN, remote web access for vendors, and multi-factor authentication.
· Recommend and help procure new end-user equipment (e.g., desktops, laptops, monitors) based on performance needs, usage requirements, and budget constraints.
· Maintain an up-to-date inventory of all end-user devices, including desktops, laptops, peripherals, cell phones, and tablets.
· Maintain detailed documentation for system configurations, asset inventories, and user support guides.
· Work closely with systems and network administrators to ensure smooth coordination across the IT infrastructure.
· Follow cybersecurity best practices to maintain the security and stability of the network infrastructure.
· Participate in IT projects such as equipment upgrades, software rollouts, and security initiatives.
· Uphold and promote IT best practices, including cybersecurity awareness and compliance with internal policies.
· All other duties as assigned.
Qualifications and Entrance Requirements:
- Strong documentation, organizational, and communication skills.
- Associate or bachelor’s degree in information technology, Computer Science, or related field—or equivalent work experience.
- Minimum 2 years of experience in desktop or technical support within a business or municipal environment.
- Proficiency in supporting Microsoft Windows Microsoft 365, Active Directory, and remote support tools.
- Experience using and managing a helpdesk ticketing system.
- Working knowledge of basic networking, endpoint security, and hardware / software troubleshooting.
- Strong customer service orientation with excellent communication and interpersonal skills.
- Ability to work on multiple tasks concurrently and take direction in a fast-paced environment.
- Willingness to work collaboratively and receive mentorship.
Preferred:
- CompTIA A Certification, Active Directory, Office 365, SolarWinds Helpdesk.
- Apple desktop support
