Psychiatric Nurse Practitioner – Child and Adolescent

Western Tidewater Community Services Board is seeking a full-time Psychiatric Nurse Practitioner – Child and Adolescent to join our clinical team. This position provides comprehensive psychiatric assessment, diagnosis, and medication management for children and adolescents across WTCSB programs. The ideal candidate brings strong clinical expertise, a collaborative spirit, and a passion for supporting youth mental health in a community-based setting.
What You’ll Do:
- Conduct comprehensive psychiatric evaluations to assess mental health and substance use disorders in children and adolescents
- Diagnose psychiatric conditions using DSM-5 criteria and develop individualized treatment plans
- Prescribe and manage psychotropic medications in accordance with state and federal regulations
- Monitor patient progress, adjust treatment plans as needed, and ensure medication safety
- Provide psychoeducation to patients and families about mental health conditions and treatment options
- Support medication-assisted treatment (MAT) as appropriate
- Collaborate with interdisciplinary teams including therapists, case managers, and primary care providers to ensure holistic care
- Maintain accurate, timely clinical documentation in compliance with regulatory standards
- Stay current with evidence-based practices, continuing education, and professional standards of care
What You’ll Bring:
- Master’s Degree with current Advanced Practice Registered Nurse (APRN) license specializing in Psychiatric Mental Health (PMHNP), valid in the Commonwealth of Virginia
- Valid DEA Controlled Substance Registration
- Minimum of one (1) year of experience collaborating with individuals living with mental illness and substance use disorders
- Ability to practice autonomously in the State of Virginia
- Strong oral and written communication skills and collaborative approach with other providers
- Commitment to professional ethics, patient-centered care, and continuous learning
- Proficiency in electronic health records and related clinical software
- Ability to make sound, independent clinical decisions regarding patient care
- Experience in diagnosing and treating common psychiatric conditions
- Working knowledge of managed care systems and the Medicare population
- Demonstrated professionalism in appearance, ethics, and conduct
