Job Summary: We are looking for an experienced Medical Billing Coder to join our team. The successful candidate will navigate the complex regulations surrounding wound care reimbursement, ensuring precise documentation and coding for procedures such as debridement, skin substitutes, and compression therapy within the EMR (Intellicure). This role requires a strong understanding of medical coding systems as well as experience with medical billing processes.
Key Responsibilities
- Wound Care Coding: Accurately code medical diagnoses and procedures.
- EMR: Utilize EMR (Intellicure) to review physician documentation, verify automated coding suggestions, and ensure the medical necessity supports the level of service billed.
- Communication: Communicate effectively with the providers, insurance companies, and patients regarding billing inquiries.
- Management: Manage accounts receivable by following up on outstanding claims with insurance companies and patients.
- Record Keeping: Maintain detailed medical records of coded data and billing activities for audit purposes.
- Denial Management: Proactively address denials (e.g., medical necessity, frequency limitations) and manage the appeals process.
Qualifications
Experience:
- Minimum 2 years of medical coding experience.
- Prior experience in Wound Care or General Surgery is not necessary, but a big plus.
- Ability to interpret complex medical documentation accurately
- Strong knowledge of medical terminology, anatomy, and physiology
- Excellent attention to detail to ensure accurate code assignment and billing accuracy
Technical Skills:
- Extensive EMR experience
- Experience with Intellicure EMR a plus but not required
- Understanding of local coverage determinations (LCDs) regarding wound care products and frequency preferred but not required
- Familiarity with CPT codes ranging from 11000 to 11047 (Debridement) and 15000 to 15278 (Grafts/CTPs).
