Job Description:

RESPONSIBILITIES: Employees at this level support programming initiatives related to identity, culture, retention, and concerns of the students and student identities affiliated with the Multicultural Center. The Assistant Director supports student leadership and development through program and event planning, conflict resolution, budget coordination, and services that enhance the identity, culture, and retention of students connected to WIU's Multicultural Center. This position plays an integral role in advancing the Center's mission by managing daily operations, overseeing space reservations, assisting with marketing and communications, and aiding in the supervision of student staff.

WORK LOCATION: Macomb campus

APPOINTMENT: As soon as possible

MONTHLY WAGE: $3,452 - $3,797

Requirements:

  • Bachelor's Degree in Women's Studies, Ethnic Studies, Latin American Studies, Gender Studies, African American Studies, Sociology, Education, Social Work, or any related field.
  • A total of (1) year of experience in college student programming and/or student development with an emphasis on working with diverse and historically underrepresented populations*.
  • A Master's Degree in an area consistent with the duties of the position may be substituted for one (1) year (12 months) of work experience.

Academics

More than 61 undergraduate degree programs, 41 graduate programs, two doctoral programs and 16 post-baccalaureate certificate programs prepare students for a successful career after graduation.

Student Resources

More than 200 student organizations at Western provide social, academic, recreation, athletics, service, academic, and many other opportunities for students to grow and learn, develop leadership skills, and much more.

Numerous concerts, lectures, films, dance performances, cultural events and more are presented and performed each year, along with numerous major theatrical and dance productions and studio shows, and a variety of service-oriented projects and activities.

WIU Intercollegiate Athletics

The University's athletics program, based on the Macomb campus, sponsors 17 NCAA Division I intercollegiate men's and women's varsity sports. All varsity sports compete at the Division I level through The Ohio Valley Conference.
