GENERAL PURPOSE OF JOB

The Utility Operator is responsible for creating a safe work environment and to perform multiple tasks given daily. This position is responsible for safely completing tasks given by the Production Supervisor that meet both internal and external customer needs. The individual in this role shall be detail oriented in ensuring the tasks given are completed. This individual is a part of a team environment focused on safely creating products and services that meet and exceed our customers’ expectations in an efficient manner. This position collaborates with management and manufacturing personnel.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES The following statements reflect the general details necessary to describe the major functions of this position and are not intended to be a detailed description of all the work/functions that may be required. Other duties may be assigned.

  • Setup and efficiently operate the Pre-Print machine to complete the needs of both facilities, ensuring quality standards are met.
  • The ability to drive a forklift in a safe manner.
  • The ability to operate the Western Container box truck. This truck will primarily deliver between Western Container locations, customer deliveries intrastate may be required.
  • Perform cycle count and month end inventory when needed.
  • Warehouse organization, including the WC plug area. This will include 5S indoor and outdoor facilities, daily restroom maintenance (stocking paper, replacing towels).
  • Perform Quality Checks if needed.
  • Examine the work area at the beginning and end of each shift and during any machine changeover for safety and proper operations.
  • Examine completed workpieces for defects, such as chipped edges or marred surfaces and sort defective pieces according to types of flaws.
  • Measure completed workpieces to verify conformance to specifications, using micrometers, gauges, calipers, templates, or rulers.
  • Safely and efficiently prepares material for shipping. This includes proper identification, tagging and wrapping.
  • Required to be a team player and collaborate with various departments to meet customer satisfaction.
  • The ability to stack finished goods on pallets.
  • Depending on the companies needs, this position will need to be flexible and work with the Production Department, covering for vacations, call in’s etc.

EDUCATION And/or EXPERIENCE

  • High school diploma or general education degree (GED) required.
  • One-year related experience and/or training or equivalent combination of education and experience.
  • Knowledge of Computer Aided Manufacturing (CAM) software preferred.
  • Knowledge of Microsoft Office (word, outlook and excel), preferred.

CERTIFICATES, LICENSES, REGISTRATIONS

  • Driver’s License preferred. MVR report will be completed prior to hire.
  • Prior experience driving a non-CDL truck.
  • Prior Forklift Experience.
  • Working knowledge of manufacturing machines.

Language Skills

  • Ability to read and comprehend simple instructions, short correspondence, and memos.
  • Ability to write simple correspondence.
  • Ability to effectively present information in one-on-one and small group situations to customers, clients, and other employees of the organization.

Mathematical Skills

  • Ability to add, subtract, multiply, and divide in all units of measure, using whole numbers, common fractions, and decimals.

REASONING ABILITY

  • Ability to apply common sense understanding to carry out detailed but uninvolved written or oral instructions.
  • Ability to deal with problems involving a few concrete variables in standardized situations.

PHYSICAL DEMANDS

  • Ability to stand greater than 2/3 of the time.
  • Ability to walk greater than 2/3 of the time.
  • Ability to sit less than 1/3 of the time.
  • Ability to use hands greater than 2/3 of the time.

  • Ability to lift to 50 pounds 1/3 – 2/3 of the time.

  • The normal work environment is a manufacturing facility.
  • Noise in the manufacturing environment is moderately loud with machinery and forklift traffic.
  • Employees are exposed to warm and cool temperatures based on weather conditions.
