Job Summary: Under direct supervision of a registered pharmacist preceptor, the PGY-1 pharmacy resident provides drug information and assists prescribers in providing optimal pharmaceutical care for patients. # Responsibilities: Provides direct patient care through participation in multidisciplinary team rounds and collaborates with physicians in establishing drug criteria for the safe, economical and appropriate use of medications. Disseminates pharmacotherapy knowledge through evaluation of literature, evidence-based practice recommendations and response to drug information questions. Implements policies and procedures to ensure compliance with clinical practice and all applicable federal, state and local laws and regulations. Supports systems-based care and population health to ensure proper safe dosing, storage, handling, dispensing and administration of medications. Participates in institutional process improvements to ensure medication and patient safety Manages non-formulary requests for drugs, and participates in Pharmacy and Therapeutics Committee activities. Participates in other hospital Committees based on practice area. Serve as a co-preceptor for pharmacy students. Attend conferences, seminars, and lectures as needed. Uses effective communication skills and builds effective working relationships with other healthcare providers. Maintains professionalism and excellent conflict resolution skills. Participates in continuing professional development. Educates health care professionals, students, patients, and the public. Participates in clinical development and educational initiatives within the Pharmacy Department.
