Special Needs Teacher

Job Overview

We are seeking a dedicated and compassionate Special Needs Teacher to join our educational team. The ideal candidate will have a strong background in special education and experience working with children with diverse needs, including those with developmental disabilities, autism, hearing impairments, visual impairments, and behavioral challenges. This role involves developing individualized lesson plans, implementing specialized teaching strategies, and fostering an inclusive learning environment to support the academic and social growth of students with special needs. The teacher will collaborate with families, therapists, and other educators to ensure comprehensive support tailored to each student's unique requirements.

Responsibilities

• Design and implement individualized education programs (IEPs) aligned with each student's specific needs and goals.
• Develop and adapt curriculum to accommodate diverse learning styles and abilities, incorporating techniques such as speech therapy, behavioral therapy, music therapy, and applied behavior analysis.
• Deliver engaging lessons in literacy education, math, early childhood education, preschool activities, physical education, and recreational therapy.
• Utilize learning technology and instructional design methods to enhance student engagement and understanding.
• Manage classroom behavior effectively through positive behavior management strategies and classroom management techniques.
• Assess student progress through standardized testing, formative assessments, and ongoing observations; adjust instruction accordingly.
• Collaborate with speech therapists, occupational therapists, psychologists, and other specialists to support comprehensive student development.
• Provide mentorship and guidance to students to foster social-emotional skills and independence.
• Maintain detailed documentation of student progress, IEP goals, behavioral data, and communication logs.
• Engage in ongoing professional development related to special education practices, including literacy education for students with disabilities and early intervention strategies.

Requirements

• Bachelor's degree or higher in Special Education or a related field; additional certifications in deaf education, visually impaired education, or behavioral health are preferred.
• Proven experience working with children with disabilities such as autism spectrum disorder, developmental disabilities, hearing impairments, visual impairments, or behavioral health challenges.
• Strong knowledge of classroom management techniques tailored for students with special needs.
• Experience designing lesson plans that incorporate speech therapy techniques, ABA (Applied Behavior Analysis), music therapy, or other therapeutic modalities.
• Familiarity with IEP development process and compliance standards for special education.
• Excellent communication skills for collaborating with students, families, therapists, and colleagues.
• Ability to adapt teaching methods based on individual student needs using assistive technology or specialized instructional strategies.

Pay: $ $30.21 per hour
