Brief Description

The Mobile Crisis Specialist provides rapid, clinic and community-based crisis response, assessment, and stabilization services to individuals of all ages, including children, adolescents, and adults experiencing behavioral health emergencies. Working as part of a mobile team, the specialist conducts risk assessments, de-escalates crisis situations, and connects individuals and families with appropriate services to promote stabilization and safety.

Note: Specialists who respond to child and adolescent crises primarily will also maintain a small caseload to provide short-term follow-up, coordination with family and school support, and linkage to ongoing care.

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree in a human services discipline including psychology, sociology, criminal justice, or related field with a minimum of 12 hours of human services coursework
  • One year of experience in behavioral health or crisis response preferred
  • Experience working with both children and adults in clinical or community settings
  • Valid driver’s license, reliable transportation, and willingness to travel throughout the catchment area
  • Ability to work flexible hours, including evenings, weekends, and holidays while participating in the on-call rotation

Essential Duties and Responsibilities: include the following. Other duties may be assigned to meet the needs of the agency.

Respond in clinic and on-site to behavioral health crises involving children, adolescents, and adults in homes, schools, hospitals, and public settings

  • Conduct developmentally appropriate clinical assessments for risk of suicide, self-harm, violence, psychosis, substance use, and acute emotional distress
  • Develop and implement individualized crisis stabilization and safety plans
  • De-escalate crisis situations and provide brief intervention, psychoeducation, and emotional support
  • Coordinate with families, caregivers, schools, and child-serving systems to support stabilization
  • Arrange referrals to outpatient services, psychiatric care, respite, or inpatient treatment as needed
  • Specialists serving youth will carry a small caseload to provide short-term follow-up and ensure coordination of ongoing services
  • Document all assessments, interventions, and referrals accurately and promptly in the electronic health record
  • Participate in supervision, team meetings, and continuous quality improvement activities

Skills And Abilities

  • Strong clinical judgment and crisis intervention skills across age groups
  • Ability to build rapport and engage quickly with individuals and families in distress
  • Knowledge of child and adolescent development and trauma-informed care
  • Familiarity with local behavioral health, school, and child welfare systems
  • Effective written and verbal communication skills
  • Proficiency with documentation and electronic health records
