What are the responsibilities and job description for the Transportation Engineer Specialist - STATEWIDE position at West Virginia?

The Transportation Engineer Specialist will report to the Operations Division of the Department of Transportation but work throughout the state of West Virginia. The incumbent in this position will serve as the Quality Assurance/Quality Control Inspection Section Head. This position will perform engineering work in the planning, design, construction, maintenance and operation of highways and their attendant facilities and structures. Work is performed within a defined framework of policy, but the incumbent independently makes engineering decisions within that framework and may make or assist in making broad decisions in setting objectives and goals. The Operations Division desires the incumbent to have 8 years of bridge inspection and as defined in 23 CFR, part 650 be qualified as a Nationally certified Tunnel Inspector and Nationally certified Bridge Inspector. Performs related duties as required.**Preference may be given to Candidates with these qualifications**TRAINING/EDUCATION
Licensed Professional Engineer (P.E.) in the State of West Virginia (or licensed in another state with the ability to obtain WV P.E. registration by comity within 6 months of hire)
Bachelor’s degree in civil, electrical, mechanical, industrial, petroleum, mining, environmental, engineering technology, or a related engineering field from an ABET-accredited program.

RECOMMENDED EXPERIENCE
Eight (8) years of progressive, professional civil engineering experience.
Preferred experience: At least four (4) years of post-licensure experience performing complex design/construction management or supervisory engineering duties.
