HS CTE Construction and Welding Teacher

Position: CTE Construction and Welding Teacher

Location: West Valley High School

Minimum Qualifications:

  • Valid Washington State CTE Certifications:
  • Technology Education (V210100) OR Construction Trades (V460200) and Precision Metal Worker (V480500)
  • Consideration may be given to applicants who can verify 6,000 hours of required experience for the needed OSPI VCodes. Submit documentation or an explanation of the required work experience with the application. For additional information, see: OSPI CTE Cert or VCode Chart . Applicants must complete CTE certification within 18 months of hire.
  • Evidence of successful teaching courses in a similar setting.
  • Industry experience in manufacturing and/or construction.
  • Evidence of providing for students' individual learning styles (basic levels and extension beyond basics).
  • Evidence of maintaining a positive, productive learning climate within the classroom as well as with parents and colleagues.
  • Dynamic, student-involving, hands-on instruction style.
Previous experience with Career and Technical Student Organizations (CTSO’s) – Skills USA.

Responsibilities:

  • Responsible for the construction and welding courses and lab spaces at the high school.
  • Assume responsibility for ordering supplies, maintaining and efficiently organizing the classroom, labs, and equipment including hand and power tools, CNC routers, welders, and CNC plasma cutters.
  • Instruct and supervise students’ clean and safe operation of tools and equipment in the classroom and labs.
  • Organize and supervise the program’s SkillsUSA CTSO.
  • Work with OSPI’s Core Plus programs, Associated General Contractors, Habitat for Humanity, local employers and suppliers.
  • Instruct welding courses using the AWS Sense program.
  • Collaborate with other programs and departments throughout the district.
  • Fulfill CTE required duties, including, but not limited to: attending all advisory meetings, framework updates, OSPI requirements and paperwork, and partnering with local employers.
  • Develop and maintain Industry Recognized Credentials and dual credit agreements.
  • Work with local employers to provide and oversee work-based learning opportunities.
  • Utilize student assessment data to formulate instructional decisions.
  • Actively engage students in the learning process using interactive, problem-solving, and research-based instructional methods.
  • Regularly incorporate choice and voice in instruction, assessment, and performance.
  • Maintain a positive, productive learning climate within the classroom as well as with parents and colleagues.
  • Provide differentiated instruction to meet diversified student learning needs.
  • Incorporate technology into the instructional process.
  • Create relationships/connections with students, staff, and community members in order to create a more collaborative learning environment.
  • Develop reading/writing relevance for all students, including a willingness to incorporate work-based reading and writing skills within the curriculum.
  • Be a team player by establishing and maintaining cooperative professional relationships with others.
  • Actively engage with other department members in professional learning communities, the development of common assessment standards, and other aspects that ensure every student has the opportunity for a rigorous and relevant education.
  • Be willing to advocate for students who need someone to speak up for what they need to be successful.
  • Regularly assess student work, input grades regularly into Family Access, and regularly contact parents regarding student performance/behavior in your classroom.
  • Actively participate in all workshops and training sessions that support building and district programs and goals, including the West Valley School District professional growth program (TAP/ACCEL).
  • Implement the requirements of I.D.E.A., Section 504, and A.D.A. in the education of students with disabilities.
  • Make the commitment to supervise a variety of student activities outside the regular school day (dances, athletic events, etc.).
Actively assume responsibility for a set of students to mentor through all phases of career education, portfolio development, high school and beyond plan.
