What you can expect as an Interior Finish Technician at West Star:

As an Interior Finish Technician, you will be responsible for interior finish processes, including wood finishes on assigned aircraft, varying amounts of gloss and satin applications, and sanding hardwood as needed to apply the finish. The primary focus is on the development and completion of aircraft interior cabinet finishes. Job duties will vary by type and scope, as designated by the Finish Team Leader.

You will be ESSENTIAL to many functions, including:

  • Assisting with paint and techniques for major modification projects
  • Identifying colors and color matches as needed
  • Having basic knowledge of stains, lacquers, clear coats, etc.
  • Understanding chemicals (thinners, catalysts, cleaners, etc.) and safety procedures
  • Having basic knowledge of paints and spraying equipment
  • Knowledge of dry sanding, wet sanding, and related processes
  • Performing maintenance and repair of shop facilities, equipment, and tooling
  • Possessing basic computer skills to navigate electronic training, manuals, and maintenance databases
  • Maintaining the cleanliness of the shop and surroundings
  • Working independently when required
  • Communicating effectively and clearly (i.e., speaking, writing, reading) in English
  • Performing any other job-related duties as assigned by the supervisor or management

Qualifications:

What you’ll need to bring with you:

 

Your Education:

  • A high school diploma or equivalent. A valid driver’s license approved for airline travel and/or a valid passport is ideal, but not required.

Your Experience:

  • 2 - 5 years of experience in wood finishing processes or related fields such as auto refinishing and collision repair. Aircraft finishing experience is preferred.

Your Initiative:

  • We’re looking for team players who are self-motivated and able to perform in a fast-paced environment where working under specific deadlines and time constraints is common.

Your Sense of Responsibility:

  • Attend work every day as scheduled, including overtime and weekend assignments.
  • Notify the supervisor in advance if unable to work.
  • Have reliable transportation to get to work every day.
  • Perform all work in accordance with Federal Aviation Administration guidelines.
  • Follow all company and safety rules during duties.
  • Maintain customer-oriented work habits.
  • Assist in major modification work as needed.

Other particulars:

Physical Requirements:

  • Lift up to 50 lbs.
  • Routine walking, bending, squatting, or sitting.
  • Repetitive physical motions with arms and hands, emphasizing grasping, feeling, and finger dexterity.
  • Standing for long periods.
  • Climbing ladders and stairs; working in small, restricted areas.
  • Pass a respirator fit test.

Mental Requirements:

  • Understanding and applying regulations and guidelines, including OSHA, Hazmat, etc.
  • Working professionally with others.
  • Reading and comprehending various documents.
  • Planning and organizing procedures and operations.

Supervision:

  • Work under the supervision of the assigned Team Leader and Interior Management.
  • May be directed to supervise other technicians in some capacity.
  • Work with minimal supervision when required.

Working Conditions:

  • Most work will be performed in a hangar or shop environment.
  • Occasionally working outside on the ramp.
  • Working in various positions around the aircraft.

Equipment Used:

  • Personal hand tools supplied by the mechanic.
  • Electrical power tools such as sanders, saws, power drills, etc.
  • Spray booths and related equipment.
  • Computer, copy machine, and other office equipment.
