West Springfield Public Schools is seeking an enthusiastic and dedicated Middle School Physical Education Teacher to join our team. The successful candidate will create a positive, inclusive, and engaging physical education environment that encourages students to develop healthy lifelong habits, physical skills, teamwork, and confidence.
Responsibilities:
- Plan and deliver developmentally appropriate physical education instruction for students in grades 6-8.
- Teach fundamental movement, fitness, sports, wellness, and health-related skills.
- Create a safe, inclusive, and supportive learning environment for students of varying abilities and backgrounds.
- Assess student progress and provide meaningful feedback.
- Promote teamwork, sportsmanship, cooperation, and personal responsibility.
- Collaborate with colleagues, families, and school staff to support student success.
- Participate in professional development, staff meetings, and school activities.
- Maintain accurate student records and comply with district policies and expectations.
- Properly use, maintain, and monitor Physical Education equipment and facilities.
- Supervise students in accordance with school and district expectations.
- Perform other duties as assigned by the Principal.
Qualifications:
- Bachelor’s Degree from an accredited institution;
- Massachusetts Certification in Physical Education 5-12 Health/Family and Consumer Sciences.
- Experience working with middle school students preferred.
- Strong classroom management and communication skills.
- Commitment to inclusive and student-centered instruction.
- Ability to develop engaging lessons that promote physical fitness and lifelong wellness.
Salary: Per Unit A Contract
Salary Range: $53,939 - $102,056
Work Year: 184 days
