Job Overview
The Saw/Shear/Shot Blast Operator is responsible for cutting, shaping, and surface-preparing metal materials using saws, shears, and shot blasting equipment. This role ensures materials are processed accurately, safely, and in accordance with production specifications and quality standards.
Key Responsibilities
- Operate band saws, cold saws, or circular saws to cut metal materials to specified dimensions
- Operate hydraulic shear machine to cut plate, sheet, or structural steel
- Read and interpret work orders, blueprints, and production schedules
- Set stops and/or guides to specified length as indicated by print or material cut list
- Load and unload materials using forklifts or other material handling equipment
- Inspect materials before and after processing to ensure quality standards are met
- Set up and run shot blast equipment to clean and prepare metal surfaces
- Perform routine maintenance and cleaning of equipment
- Maintain accurate production and material records
- Follow all safety procedures, including proper use of PPE (gloves, eye protection, hearing protection, etc.)
- Keep work area clean and organized
Qualifications
- Experience operating saws, shears, or shot blast equipment preferred
- Ability to read blueprints and shop drawings
- Basic math skills (measurements, fractions, decimals)

- Strong attention to detail and accuracy
- Ability to work independently and as part of a team
- Time management and ability to meet production deadlines
Physical Requirements
- Ability to stand for extended periods
- Ability to lift up to 50 lbs (or more with assistance/equipment)
- Frequent bending, stooping, and reaching
- Ability to work in a noisy, dusty industrial environment
Work Environment
- Fabrication shop / industrial setting
- Exposure to moving machinery, metal materials, dust, and noise
- May require overtime, shift work, or weekend work depending on production needs
