What are the responsibilities and job description for the Facility Maintenance Staff position at WEST MORRIS AREA YMCA?
POSITION SUMMARY: (EVENING HOURS - MONDAY THROUGH FRIDAY)
This position supports the work of the Y, a leading nonprofit, charitable organization committed to strengthening community through youth development, healthy living and social responsibility. Under the direction of the Facilities Director, the Facility Maintenance Staff is responsible for the cleanliness, safety, appearance and improvement of the facility and property.
ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:
- Ensures Y is attractive and clean by completing all duties listed in the maintenance and upkeep of assigned areas and equipment. May perform wet and dust mopping, dusting, trash removal, recycling, window washing, pool cleaning, pressure wash locker rooms and pool deck, vacuuming, clean and disinfect sinks, urinals, toilets, and mirrors in all areas/rooms, replace soap, paper towels and other supplies, set up and clean up for events.
- Communicates status of routine cleaning assignments.
- Anticipates risk, implications, and possible outcomes before taking action; communicates same with Facilities Director.
- Reports all needed repairs and maintenance requests.
- Ensures YMCA building and property is secure during shifts and reports and documents all incidents and hazardous conditions to the Facilities Director.
- Understands and utilizes appropriate ergonomic safety techniques.
- Attend meetings as directed by the Facilities Director.
- Other duties/tasks as determined by the Facilities Director.
Qualifications:
QUALIFICATIONS:
- Knowledge of standard cleaning procedures and equipment and the use of personal protective equipment (PPE)
- Ability to be detail oriented
- Ability to comprehend product labels and instructions to ensure safe product handling.
- Ability to understand cleaning compounds and chemicals, their safety, and efficient use.
- Basic understanding of the upkeep and care of equipment.
- Ability to maintain reports and records of requests.
- Ability to multi-task and perform duties within a predetermined timeframe.
- Ability to analyze and respond to safety and emergency situations
- Ability to interact in a positive manner with members, guests, and team.
- Ability to remain calm under pressure.
- Ability to respond to emergency situations as needed.
- Ability to speak English and Spanish is preferred.
