Head Cross Country Coach for the 2026-27 season.
Summary
The Head Coach must realize and appreciate the need to be a role model for the West Monona Athletics Department and be highly visible in the Onawa Community promoting the sport of XC.
Responsibilities/Essential Functions:
- The Head High School XC Coach is to support West Monona High School’s mission, along with the Activities Dept. Program’s mission, with the development and implementation of an exemplary XC program that will effectively provide the best possible educational and athletic experience for each student athlete.
Qualifications:
- Valid Iowa Coaching endorsement
- Annual concussion certification required
- Annual completion of Mandatory Reportings
The successful candidate will exhibit:
- Comprehensive knowledge of the sport of XC is expected.
- Extensive knowledge of current XC coaching techniques and procedures.
- Knowledge of the IHSAA rules and expectations for the sport of XC.
- Demonstrated ability to instruct and supervise student-athletes.
- Utilization of technology is required.
- Ability to communicate effectively in spoken and written words to all stakeholders.
- Excellent organizational skills.
- Ability to establish a strong rapport with all stakeholders of the West Monona High School XC program.
- High level of accountability and visibility to the WMCSD.
- Progressive thinking and a believer in planning and preparation.
- Appropriate sportsmanship at all times.
- Care for the student athlete as a whole person year around.
- Support and expect XC student-athletes to be multi-sport athletes.
- Consistent and punctual basis.
- Ability to create a sense of belonging and a welcoming environment for all athletes, families, and staff.
