JOB TITLE: Security Officer- Night

REPORTS TO: Director of Facilities/Principal

FLSA: Non-Exempt

POSITION PURPOSE/SUMMARY
To provide staff and students with an attractive, comfortable, and safe environment in which to work and learn.

QUALIFICATION REQUIREMENTS
The Night Security Officer shall demonstrate knowledge of the basic principles of security measures and techniques. A minimum of three years of experience in a security capacity is preferred. Must be able to obtain a security license from St. Charles County.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES
1. Patrol district buildings and grounds to prevent fire, theft, vandalism, burglary, and all other types of criminal activity.
2. Conducts patrol inspections of doors, windows, and gates to determine that they are secure.
3. Confronts unauthorized persons for questioning, routes or detains them, and/or calls police for assistance, according to the emergency action plan.
4. Sounds fire signal to alert the fire department and school personnel in the event of fire and assists in extinguishing the fire.
5. Reports any unusual conditions or malfunctioning of heating, plumbing, or electrical systems.
6. Patrol school grounds to detect unauthorized persons or vehicles; check cars for parking authorization to determine if vehicles are parked in restricted areas, such as near fire hydrants or in driveways; and to check exterior lighting and emergency access routes.
7. Makes written reports of security incidents and/or violations.
8. Responds to both intrusion and fire alarm notifications by alarm companies.

ADDITIONAL DUTIES
1. Maintain a neat, clean personal appearance and wear district uniforms at all times when performing officer duties.
2. Perform other duties as assigned by the Director of Facilities, Principal or their designee.
3. Effectively communicate verbally, and in written form, with administrators, staff, and the community as needed.

MENTAL DEMANDS
Ability to maintain confidentiality and have the ability to reason and make appropriate decisions. Must be able to work independently, well under pressure, and negotiate conflict situations as they arise.

PHYSICAL DEMANDS
While performing these duties, the employee is regularly required to sit, drive, walk, and stand. The employee will use hand strength to grasp and use tools, as well as to use hands and fingers to handle or feel objects, tools, or controls. The employee should have good vision and hearing capabilities. The Night Security Officer will need to have a chauffeur’s
license or the ability to get one within one month of employment and maintain a good driving record.  The employee must normally lift, move, push, or pull up to 50 pounds.

ENVIRONMENTAL CONDITIONS
This employee will work night hours in a district vehicle and continually check buildings and other district properties.  The employee will occasionally work in conditions of extreme heat or cold.  This job description is not designed to cover or contain a comprehensive listing of activities, duties, or responsibilities that are required of the employee.

TERMS OF EMPLOYMENT
Employment will be on an at-will basis for 12 months with two weeks vacation, beginning July 1, or from the time of employment for the duration of the school year with prorated vacation and/or personal leave. Each security employee will be provided a work calendar showing the specific daily work schedule of the employee. The work calendar may
be modified by the Board of Education at any time, as needs dictate.  Eight hours (including a 30 minute non-paid lunch period) will constitute a workday. The Chief Human Resources Officer will establish a definite daily schedule.  The yearly salary will be disbursed in twenty-four (24) equal payments.

EVALUATION
Performance of this job will be evaluated annually in accordance with the provisions of the Board's policy on evaluation of support staff personnel.
