Senior Accountant

We’re looking for a Senior Accountant who can keep the numbers in line while bringing a little personality to the process. This role is perfect for someone who thrives on balancing precision with curiosity—someone who doesn’t just crunch numbers, but understands the story they tell.

In this role, you’ll handle day-to-day accounting tasks like reconciling accounts, preparing journal entries, and supporting month-end close. You’ll dig into financial data, spot discrepancies before they become problems, and help keep everything running smoothly behind the scenes. You’ll also collaborate with teammates across departments, translating “accounting speak” into real-world insights.

We’re not expecting a robot (we’ve tried, they’re terrible at coffee breaks). We want someone detail-oriented, reliable, and proactive—someone who takes ownership of their work but isn’t afraid to ask questions or suggest better ways of doing things.

If you’re organized, analytical, and maybe just a little bit obsessed with things tying out perfectly, you’ll fit right in. Bonus points if you can explain debits and credits without making people’s eyes glaze over.

Job Duties

• Works in conjunction with Chief Financial Officer to ensure efficient and effective internal controls.
• Responsible for maintaining the organization’s fixed asset ledger and related schedules.
• Reconciles bank accounts and prepares the related reconciling adjusting journal entries.
• Prepares accounting schedules as needed for the organization’s independent auditors and state auditors.
• Prepares and reviews various month-end and year-end account reconciliations and schedules and prepares the related reconciling adjusting journal entries.
• Assists the Chief Financial Officer with the monthly and year-end accounting processes.
• Provides other financial analysis, audits, reviews and activities as assigned.
• Assists Chief Financial Officer with accounting data entry and coding to general ledger.
• Must visit other business locations within Florida 3-4 times a year.
• Ensure that invoice coding is accurate and follows corporate guidelines.
• Ensures accuracy and adherence with Generally Accepted Accounting Principles, corporate policies, and reporting rules and regulations.
• All other duties as assigned.

Requirements

• BA in Accounting or Finance and 3-5 years of similar work experience preferred.
• Strong financial acumen with proven analytical and problem-solving skills with the ability to effectively resolve issues and to initiate, design, implement and document required business processes.
• Knowledge of poker/pari-mutuel operations a huge plus.
• Strong technical accounting skills; understanding of Generally Accepted Accounting Principles and related controls.
• Familiarity with financial accounting statements
• Requires excellent organizational, interpersonal, analytical and communication skills.
• Strong knowledge of Sage100 software.
• Must be familiar with Microsoft office products.
• Experience with general ledger functions and the month-end/year-end close process
• Must possess strong written and communication skills.
• Team work skills are required.
• Must have strong attention to detail.
