Job Description
Position Title: Custodial Services Manager
Location: Central Maintenance
Department: Facilities & Grounds
Reports To: Director of Buildings & Grounds
Term: Year-round position
Schedule: Mon-Fri Full-time
Salary: Position follows the Classified Salary Schedule 2026-2027 at B243. Starting salary begins at $26.15-$29.90/hour, based on experience.

SUMMARY: The Custodial Services Manager provides strategic leadership and management of custodial operations for West Fargo Public Schools (WFPS). The position supervises, schedules, trains, and evaluates custodial staff and evening supervisors throughout the district. The position is responsible for ensuring custodial operations are conducted in accordance with district policies and procedures, as well as all applicable federal, state, and local regulations.This position assists the Director of Buildings and Grounds in maintaining the cleanliness, safety, appearance, and operational readiness of district facilities while supporting facility maintenance, events, and other district operations.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES: (Other duties may be assigned)
Collaboration:- Collaborates with the Director of Buildings and Grounds to develop and manage annual custodial supply, chemical, and equipment budgets.
- Collaborates with the Director and other district leaders in budget development, monitoring, and forecasting.
- Assists in monitoring and administering contracted custodial and event-related services.
- Assists in maintaining a safe working environment by ensuring compliance with district safety procedures, SafeSchools training requirements, and applicable regulations.
- Supports district emergency preparedness initiatives and assists with facility safety inspections.
- Develops positive, effective working relationships with learners and staff.
- Assists with labor planning and staffing strategies to ensure efficient deployment of resources across district facilities.

Responsibility:
- Supervise district-wide custodial operations to ensure employees have the equipment, supplies, training, and resources necessary to meet district expectations.
- Provides leadership and management of custodial services for district schools, aquatic center, ice arena, and other district operational facilities.
- Ensures consistent custodial standards, operational efficiency, quality assurance, safety compliance, and effective stewardship of district resources across all WFPS facilities.
- Provides district-wide leadership for custodial personnel, training programs, staffing, scheduling, performance management, inventory control, equipment operations, and custodial quality standards.
- Conducts employee evaluations, including Marzano evaluations and annual performance reviews.
- Coordinates custodial recruitment activities, including applicant screening, interviewing, onboarding, and maintaining required hiring documentation in SharePoint.
- Administers human resource processes including employee coaching, performance improvement plans, corrective actions, and disciplinary procedures.
- Prepares equipment justification reports and supporting documentation for equipment purchases.
- Conducts facility inspections using the CompuClean application and other quality assurance tools.
- Maintains appropriate inventory levels of custodial supplies, chemicals, and equipment.
- Completes special projects, studies, and reports as assigned by the Director or other district administrators.
- Provides leadership and responses during emergencies, weather events, or facility-related incidents.
- Responds to concerns, complaints, and service requests from administrators, staff, learners, and community members, recommending and implementing appropriate solutions.
- Identifies employee development needs and ensures staff receive required and ongoing professional training.
- Investigates employee and facility incident reports and submits completed documentation to the district office within 24 hours when required.
- Coordinates district-wide fire extinguisher inspections and documentation.
- Ensures proper handling, storage, and use of custodial chemicals and cleaning products.
- Directs, supervises, and evaluates the work performance of custodians, head custodians, and evening supervisors.
- Provides leadership, coaching, mentoring, and professional development opportunities for custodial personnel.

Education and/or Experience:- High School Diploma or General Education Degree (GED) equivalent.
- Associate's Degree, technical certification, or directly-related post-secondary education is preferred.
- Minimum of five (5) years of custodial or facilities operations experience.
- Minimum of three (3) years of supervisory or management experience preferred.
- Experience in employee supervision, training, evaluation, scheduling, and operational leadership.
- Experience managing budgets, inventories, and facility support services is preferred.
- Demonstrated ability to analyze and utilize operational data (such as generating reports, utilizing spreadsheets, word processing programs, email systems, and online platforms, etc.)
- Experience configuring and utilizing workload software and system management tools.
- Experience with CMMS (Computerized Maintenance Management Systems) and CAFM (Computer-Aided Facility Management) systems to manage workloads and operational efficiency is preferred.
Language Skills:- Ability to read, write, and comprehend simple instructions and short correspondences in the English language.
- Ability to communicate effectively verbally, expressively, and reactively.
- Ability to present information clearly and respond effectively to questions and concerns.
