Salary: $16Direct Support ProfessionalThis Direct Support Team member skill level will possess the ability to redirect, and demonstrates patience, empathy, strong interpersonal skills, and a detailed knowledge of best care practices.Position DescriptionThis position provides support for an individual with special needs; coaching individual on independent living, coaching to make wise choices to enhance quality of life and remind him of things to keep him moving in a positive direction.Essential Duties and Responsibilities of a Direct Care WorkerCoaches the individual around their homeCoaching in completing basic hygiene tasksOversees any required exercises and activitiesEnsures that individuals take their prescribed medicationsPrepares meals that adhere to special dietary considerations.Coaches with light cleaning and housework.Coaches individual how to adopt basic independent living skills.Helps individual learn to make a budget and complete basic household tasks.Providing support and assistance during daily activities.Meets with Life Coach to discuss needs of individuals.Provides transportation to bowling, the grocery store, and other necessary locations.Serves as a companion for the individual who live alone.Organizes activities for individual.Required Knowledge, Skills and AbilitiesRedirects with patience and compassion.Possesses excellent interpersonal skills.Exhibits ability to think quickly and act calmly in an emergency.Demonstrates strong organizational skills.Communicates clearly and effectively.Possesses strong listening skills.Pays close attention to detail.Possesses emotional strength necessary to help guide in a positive direction.Demonstrates awareness of proper first aid and emergency response procedures.Maintains friendly and open demeanor at all times.Education and ExperienceHigh school diploma or equivalent.Work EnvironmentTeam members may spend the majority of his or her working hours at the individuals residence.
