Position: Counselor, Elementary
Reports to: Principal
Supervises: None
Qualifications:
- Hold or be eligible for Oklahoma School Counselor certificate.
- Hold Master's degree.
- Satisfy all district requirements with regard to physical health and citizenship.
- Such alternatives to the above qualifications as the Board may find appropriate and acceptable.
Position Goal: To foster a safe environment in which all students will grow and develop personally, socially, emotionally, academically and physically.
Essential Functions and Responsibilities:
- Collaborate with families, teachers, and the school community for student success in academics, behavioral, and interpersonal skills.
- Assist individuals with the resolution of problems and concerns, thus optimizing academic and social success.
- Counsel students both in small group settings and/or individually and refer students to therapeutic caseloads as needed
- Help students deal with serious personal and educational problems by consulting with families and providing referral information about other school services and community agencies.
- Provide consultation services, resource information and instruction for other educators about working with individual student differences, small groups and classroom presentations.
- Coordinate and collaborate with others who offer community-based mental health-oriented assistance in school.
- Coordinate testing programs at the site which may include the following: placement testing for students from non-accredited schools, Learning Styles Inventory, Otis Lennon Test of School Abilities, state mandated norm-referenced achievement battery and criterion-referenced writing assessment and achievement battery, other placement assessments. Provide in service training for teachers on the implementation of these programs.
- Ensure professional growth by participating in professional development opportunities and in service training designed for counselors. Attending professional meetings and becoming knowledgeable about contemporary research, technology and methodology.
- Perform managerial tasks necessary for the development and implementation of the site counseling program in concordance with federal, state, district and site regulations.
- Provide support to staff, both professionally and personally.
- Work with whole classrooms in regard to developmental guidance activities deemed necessary by counselor and teacher.
- Crisis Intervention for site and district.
- Performs all other duties as assigned.
Employment Terms: Nine month teacher contract eight (8) days. Salary and work year to be established by the Board. Benefits as established by Board policy.

Evaluation: Performance of this job will be evaluated in accordance with provisions of the Jenks Public Schools Board of Education’s policy on Staff Evaluation (2.20) and by Oklahoma State Law.
