About the role
The Claude Agent SDK is the programmatic entry point into Claude Code the toolkit developers use to build their own agents on the same foundation that powers Claude Code itself. Adoption of the SDK has grown rapidly, and its documentation now serves a large and fast-growing developer audience. We're looking for a technical writer to take focused ownership of this documentation surface for a 3 6 month contract engagement and bring it up to the standard our developers deserve.
You'll own a concrete, well-scoped body of work: auditing and re-architecting the Agent SDK section of our developer documentation into a coherent learning path, validating that every code sample runs against the released SDKs, writing cookbooks for the most common use cases, and completing the automation pipeline for our TypeScript and Python API references. You'll partner closely with the Claude Code documentation team, who will remain responsible for release-coupled and unreleased-feature documentation while you focus on the structural improvements the existing pages need.
This is an ideal role for someone who treats documentation as a product someone who sweats the details of information architecture, believes a code sample that doesn't run is worse than no code sample at all, and enjoys turning real developer questions into content that prevents the next person from having to ask. The Agent SDK is a public product surface, so you'll work primarily with our published packages, public repositories, and feedback from the developer community.
Key responsibilities
? Audit and re-architect the information architecture of the Agent SDK documentation, turning roughly thirty pages into a coherent learning path from quickstart through advanced reference
? Validate every TypeScript and Python code sample against the released SDKs, and help stand up automated checks so samples stay correct as the product evolves
? Write end-to-end cookbooks for the most common Agent SDK use cases, drawing on developer questions from GitHub issues, Discord, Stack Overflow, and other community channels
? Complete the automated API reference generation pipeline for the TypeScript and Python SDKs
? Expand the examples library in the public Python SDK repository
? Break up long, monolithic reference pages into navigable, well-structured documents
? Partner with the documentation team to prioritize improvements based on reader feedback and docs analytics
Minimum qualifications
? Experience writing developer-facing technical documentation, such as SDK references, API documentation, or tutorials
? Ability to read, write, and debug both TypeScript and Python well enough to author and validate working code samples
? Experience with docs-as-code workflows, including Markdown or MDX, Git, and pull-request-based review
? Strong information architecture skills you can take a sprawling set of pages and reorganize it into a structure developers can actually navigate
? Clear, plain-language writing and the judgment to anticipate what a reader needs next
Preferred qualifications
? Experience documenting SDKs, agent frameworks, or AI/LLM developer tools
? Experience setting up continuous integration to automatically test documentation code samples
? Experience generating API references from type definitions, docstrings, or similar sources
? Developer relations background: writing cookbooks, sample applications, or tutorials, and engaging directly with developer communities
? Familiarity with Claude Code, the Claude Agent SDK, MCP, or comparable agent development tooling
Representative projects
? Restructure a very large single-page API reference into a set of focused, cross-linked pages with a clear table of contents and working anchor links
? Stand up a CI workflow that installs the published SDK packages and runs every documentation code sample on each pull request
? Write a cookbook that takes a developer from an empty directory to a working agent with custom tools and MCP servers
? Mine the most frequent community questions about the SDK and turn the top handful into new documentation pages or cookbooks
