What are the responsibilities and job description for the Crisis Counselor/Peer - Evenings - 3PM to 11PM position at WEST CENTRAL BEHAVIORAL HEALTH?
Are you passionate about helping people find stability and support following a mental health crisis? West Central Behavioral Health is looking for a Crisis Counselor/Peer to join our Mobile Crisis Outreach team, supporting individuals in the community in the days and weeks after a crisis intervention.
This role works alongside our Crisis Clinicians, providing the follow-up support that helps clients regain their footing and stay connected to care. We welcome candidates from two paths: those with a degree in a related field, and those who bring personal experience — whether through their own mental health journey or through supporting a loved one, friend, or family member affected by mental illness.
What You'll Do
- Assist Crisis Clinicians with crisis evaluations, including identifying a client's natural supports and risk factors
- Conduct timely follow-up interventions until a client is stabilized, connected to community behavioral health services, or 30 days have passed
- Draw on your own experience — personal or through someone close to you — to engage individuals in crisis and support development of an individualized recovery plan
- Promote client self-advocacy, self-care, and wellness
- Provide follow-up support in the setting most comfortable for the client and their family
- Partner with hospital-based staff and community providers to ensure continuity of care
