CNC Turning Programmer–Lathe Specialist
Location: Pennsauken, NJ | Department: Operations | Reports to: Operations Manager
A day in the life
Step into Werko Machine Company’s climate-controlled job shop and start your first-shift day at 7:30 AM. You’ll review the day’s priorities with the Operations Manager, pull up prints and models, and build or refine CAM programs for the next run on our 2–4 axis turning centers. From there, you’ll set up tooling, prove out programs, and coach operators through efficient, safe operation. Throughout the shift, you’ll perform in-process and final inspections using micrometers, calipers, and other precision gauges to verify parts meet dimensional tolerances. Collaboration is constant—whether interpreting drawings, aligning on sequences of operations, or helping teammates maintain a professional standard of communication and appearance. You’ll close the loop by documenting setups, following written and verbal procedures, and ensuring on-time execution—occasionally staying for overtime when production requires it.
What you’ll do
- Program CNC lathe operations using CAM software; assist operators with machine setup and production runs.
- Inspect finished components to verify all critical dimensions using micrometers, calipers, and related metrology tools.
- Read and interpret drawings, specs, and sample parts to determine tolerances, operation sequences, and setup requirements.
- Work as a dependable team member, modeling professional cooperation, communication, and presentation.
- Follow written and verbal machining procedures and complete tasks in a timely manner.
- Perform additional duties as assigned.
What you bring
- Full-time, first-shift availability.
- Fluent CNC programming capability using CAM software (required), plus hands-on setup and operation experience.
- Organized, dependable, and mechanically adept work style.
- Knowledge of manual or other manufacturing equipment (a plus).
Preferred qualifications
- Experience with multi-axis CNC lathes.
- Familiarity with CAD/CAM platforms.
- Background in producing custom or high-precision parts in a manufacturing environment.
Physical and safety
- Ability to stand, walk, and lift up to 50 lbs throughout the shift.
- Occasional bending, kneeling, and climbing.
- Use of PPE such as safety glasses, gloves, and hearing protection as needed.
Schedule
- Monday–Friday, 7:30 AM–4:00 PM, with occasional overtime based on production needs.
