What are the responsibilities and job description for the Mechanical Design Engineer position at Werco Manufacturing?
Werco Manufacturing is hiring a Mechanical Design Engineer to create and refine the 3D models and fabrication drawings that drive our floor. For more than 39 years, Werco has been a trusted AS9100D-certified, ITAR-registered precision manufacturing partner serving aerospace, defense, energy, and data center customers. We do it all under one roof: fabrication, machining, assembly, paint and powder coat, and more.
What you will own
You will turn concepts, customer models, and red-line markups into production-ready 3D models and fabrication drawings. Your work is the bridge between what the customer wants and what the shop builds, so accuracy, manufacturability, and speed all matter. We are looking for someone who takes initiative, asks the right questions early, and designs with the floor in mind.
Day to day you will:
- Design and model 3D parts and assemblies in SolidWorks, AutoCAD, and CATIA
- Create detailed fabrication drawings for sheet metal, machined, and assembled parts
- Modify and update existing models and customer-supplied geometry
- Develop flat patterns, weldments, and assembly drawings that match our processes and equipment
- Apply GD&T and proper tolerancing for manufacturable, inspectable parts
- Partner with engineering, quality, and the shop floor to resolve design and build questions
- Support quoting and new part introduction with models and drawings as needed
- Keep files, revisions, and drawing standards clean and organized
What you bring
- Proven experience as a mechanical designer, CAD designer, or detailer in a fabrication or machining environment
- Strong proficiency in SolidWorks, AutoCAD, and CATIA (experience in one or more, with the ability to work across all three)
- Solid understanding of sheet metal fabrication, machining, and assembly processes
- Working knowledge of GD&T and engineering drawing standards
- A bias for action and the ability to manage multiple jobs without losing accuracy
- Comfort in a fast-paced, high-mix environment
Why Werco
You will join a family-owned company with 39 years of reputation and a growth curve that is just getting started. We serve some of the most demanding customers in aerospace, defense, energy, and data centers, and we are scaling fast to meet that demand. We invest in our people and our equipment, and we give designers real ownership of their work.
