What are the responsibilities and job description for the Materials Manager position at Wenzlau Engineering?
We work a "9/80" schedule-- 9 hours a day / 80 hours every 2 weeks; we are closed every other Friday
The purpose of this position is to provide motivation, support, leadership, direction, and add critical input to material storage and allocation and development of product protection, process, and quality achievements. They will be responsible for overseeing the materials/parts department. In addition, the Material Supervisor will build teams and facilitate communication between departments.
Responsibilities include:
- Confer with department employees to identify overdue materials or parts and update manufacturing supervisors on material status.
- Visually inspect deliveries for proper packaging and quality.
- Review inventory levels and report to the Purchasing Department in a timely manner.
- Updating shortage reports as needed
- Conduct pre-shift planning and review of daily production schedules
- Train employees on procedures relevant to their assigned roles
- Confer with Production Supervisors as required to ensure resources are available to support production schedule
- Review components and instructions on work orders to ensure accuracy and compliance
- Review the department’s performance results versus goal
- Verify shipper documents against shipments to verify they are accurately completed
- Verify parts are available as required to achieve production schedule
- Contact manufacturing department to bring additional components for production line as needed
- Complies with company Employee Manual
- Ensure all employees abide by the safety regulations
- Perform quality checks of the parts department
- Maintain product cleanliness
- Complete the progressive disciplinary process as required to correct performance/behavioral issues
- Operate within the MRP system with proficiency, including receiving packages per company procedures.
- Complete corrective action reports (CARs) promptly and communicate with the appropriate departments.
- Maintain warehouse and outdoor lot areas in a clean, organized, and safe condition.
- Perform additional duties as assigned.
Qualifications:
- Process-oriented disposition and mentality (a commitment to following procedures, instructions, and rules)
- Experience and/or interest in technical or mechanical disciplines (desired)
- Well spoken and written English language skills
- Strong leadership abilities
- High school diploma or equivalent required
- Proficiency in using MRP systems.
- Strong organizational skills
- Problem solving skills
- 3-5 years’ experience in a lead position in a Shipping/manufacturing environment
- Able to read, write and perform basic mathematical calculations
- Independently able to read and interpret documents such as design drawings, safety rules, operating and maintenance instructions, and procedure manuals. Able to write routine reports and correspondence.
- Demonstrate safe behavior and support department/plant safety goals in a continuous improvement process
- Able to work a flexible schedule, including overtime, weekends before and after schedule as needed
- Bi-lingual Spanish/English (preferred/not required)
Physical Demands:
- Sitting, standing, speaking, listening, walking (including stairs), lifting and carrying up to 50 pounds, color determination, near acuity
