Quality Lab Technician

Welspun is looking for a Lab Technician in the Coating Plant within the Quality Lab!

Welspun's Little Rock facilities are state-of-the-art and one of their kinds in technology for producing pipes for oil and gas. The Spiral mill has diversified sizes ranging from 24 to 60 inches as outer diameter (OD) and 0.23 to 1 inch as wall thickness (WT), as well as coating and double jointing capabilities, our facilities provide a one-stop solution to valued oil and gas customers in and around the United States. The HFW mill is a fully automatic and integrated mill capable of producing pipes ranging in diameter 6 5/8th inch to 20” and wall thickness from 0.158” to 0.551” in. The Arkansas facilities employ more than 800 people.

Job Summary

The Laboratory QC Technician is responsible for performing inspection, testing, monitoring, documentation, and quality control activities related to internal and external pipe coating operations. The position ensures compliance with customer specifications, API, ISO, CSA, ASTM, NACE/AMPP standards, and internal Quality Assurance Plans (QAPs). The technician supports production by conducting laboratory testing, monitoring coating processes, maintaining calibrated equipment, and preparing accurate quality records.

Primary Responsibilities:

1. Laboratory Inspection & Quality Control

3. Internal Coating Laboratory & External Coating Laboratory

4. Laboratory Testing:

Perform testing including, but not limited to:

• Differential Scanning Calorimetry (DSC)
• Gel Time
• Moisture Analysis
• Density Testing
• Cathodic Disbandment
• Impact Resistance
• Flexibility Testing
• Holiday Detection
• Pinhole Evaluation
• Adhesion Testing
• Thermal Analysis
• Surface Contamination Testing
• Additional testing as required by project specifications

5. Equipment Calibration & Maintenance

6. Documentation & Quality Records

7. Non-conformance Control

8. Customer & Third-party support

9. Safety & Compliance

10. Standards & Specifications:

• ISO 9001 Quality Management System
• API 5L2
• ISO 21809
• ASTM Test Methods
• CSA Z245 Series
• NACE/AMPP Standards
• Customer Specifications
• Approved Quality Assurance Plans (QAP)

Education and/or Experience:

• NACE/AMPP Coating Inspector Certification preferred
• Experience in pipeline coating, laboratory testing, or quality control preferred
• Knowledge of ISO 9001 Quality Management Systems
• Familiarity with API, ASTM, CSA, ISO, and NACE/AMPP standards
• Proficiency in Microsoft Office and SAP (preferred)
