Job Overview

The QA Engineer supports the plant's Quality Management System (QMS) by preparing and maintaining quality documentation, verifying compliance with approved procedures, and driving continuous improvement through data-driven root cause and corrective action analysis. This role ensures that production, inspection, and testing activities consistently meet approved specifications, customer requirements, and applicable industry codes and standards.

Duties

  • Prepare, maintain, and control Quality Assurance Plans (QAP), Manufacturing Procedure Specifications (MPS), process charts, and work instructions, ensuring accurate distribution and version control across the plant.
  • Establish and maintain the quality management system for the plant, ensuring alignment with corporate quality standards.
  • Verify that production, inspection, and testing activities are performed in accordance with approved QAPs, process charts, and work instructions.
  • Initiate, investigate, and close Non-Conformance Reports (NCRs) for raw materials, finished products, and audit findings; drive Corrective and Preventive Actions (CAPA) to resolution.
  • Conduct internal quality audits and prepare clear, actionable audit reports for plant leadership.
  • Review calibration records to confirm that all measuring and testing instruments in use are properly calibrated.
  • Review raw material test reports, mill test certificates, and consumable certifications for compliance.
  • Prepare and maintain Procedure Qualification Records (PQR) and Welding Procedure Specifications (WPS); review and manage welder certification and training records.
  • Coordinate with third-party inspectors and customers on the timely submission of technical documentation.
  • Analyze production and quality data using statistical process control (SPC) tools to identify trends and drive process improvements.
  • Maintain full traceability of coils and pipes throughout the manufacturing process.

Requirements

  • Ability to read and interpret API, ISO, and ASME codes and standards.
  • Strong attendance and punctuality; consistently present and on time.
  • Dependable — follows instructions and responds effectively to management direction.
  • Strong analytical skills, with the ability to apply statistical process control tools to real production data.
  • Sound reasoning ability to solve practical problems involving variable, non-standardized conditions, and to interpret instructions delivered in written, verbal, diagram, or schedule form.

REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS

Education & Experience

  • M.S. in Metallurgy, Mechanical Engineering, or a related science field with 1–2 years of relevant experience, OR
  • B.S. in Metallurgy, Mechanical Engineering, or a related science field with 2–4 years of experience in testing and quality control within the pipe, steel, or heavy metal manufacturing industry.

Certificates, Licenses & Registrations

ISO 9001 Internal/Lead Auditor certification and/or Six Sigma certification preferred, but not required.

Language Skills

Ability to read and interpret technical documents, including API, ASME, and ASTM codes and standards, safety rules, operating and maintenance instructions, and procedure manuals. Ability to write clear routine reports and correspondence, and to communicate effectively with both customers and colleagues.

Mathematical Skills

Ability to apply mathematical concepts such as probability, statistical inference, and plane/solid geometry and trigonometry, as well as fractions, percentages, ratios, and proportions to real-world production scenarios.

Computer Skills

Proficiency with Microsoft Office (Excel, PowerPoint), Minitab, and SAP is required.

PHYSICAL DEMANDS

While performing the duties of this job, the employee is occasionally required to stand, walk, and use hands to finger, handle, or feel objects. The employee must occasionally lift and/or move up to 25 pounds. Specific vision requirements include the ability to read Jaeger Number 1 at a distance of at least 12 inches, and the ability to distinguish and differentiate colors and shades using an Ishihara Chart. WORK ENVIRONMENT

While performing the duties of this job, the employee is occasionally exposed to moving mechanical parts, fumes or airborne particles, and risk of electrical shock. Pay: $70,000.00 - $80,000.00 per year
