We are seeking a highly motivated and experienced Freelance IT Support Engineer to join our team. This is a hybrid position based in the Raleigh-Durham, NC area, requiring 2-3 days per week of onsite client visits with flexibility for some remote work. Weekly hours will range from 15 to 40 depending on workload.
DetailsWellshade is seeking a skilled Freelance IT Support Engineer to provide exceptional technical support to our clients on a contract basis (B2B or 1099, not W2). Our team helps businesses focus on their operations by managing their technology, including servers, networks, PCs, laptops, and mobile devices. This role involves both onsite and remote work, with client sites within one hour of the Raleigh-Durham area. Client sites include commercial and industrial environments, such as offices and manufacturing facilities, requiring appropriate professional attire, conduct, and strong interpersonal skills. Some sites may require personal protective equipment (PPE) and government-issued ID for access. Work may occasionally occur in unconditioned and dirty manufacturing environments, and the role requires lifting equipment up to 50 lbs, though this is not frequent.
The IT Support Engineer will be responsible for:
- Delivering high-quality onsite and remote support to a diverse client base
- Troubleshooting and resolving hardware, software, and network issues, including Windows desktops, laptops, printers, and basic network configurations
- Managing and maintaining Microsoft 365 environments (e.g., Exchange Online, Teams, SharePoint)
- Supporting datacenter operations, such as server maintenance and virtualization (e.g., VMware, Hyper-V)
- Participating in network projects and upgrades, including switch and router configurations
- Maintaining accurate ticket documentation in RMM tools
- Communicating technical issues clearly to non-technical clients to ensure satisfaction and understanding
- 5 years of experience in IT support
- Strong knowledge of Windows operating systems, Microsoft 365 administration, and basic network troubleshooting (e.g., TCP/IP, DNS, DHCP)
- Familiarity with MSP RMM tools
- Excellent problem-solving, troubleshooting, and communication skills, with the ability to explain technical concepts to non-technical clients
- Ability to work independently and collaboratively in a fast-paced environment
- Exceptional time management skills to prioritize tasks and meet deadlines
- Valid driver's license and reliable transportation for client site visits
- Personal laptop with Windows 10/11 Pro, minimum 16GB RAM, and i5/i7 processor or equivalent for remote work and client support
- Ability to pass a background check
- Professional attire, conduct, and strong interpersonal skills suitable for commercial and industrial client environments
- Experience with remote support tools
- Industry certifications (e.g., CompTIA A , Network , Microsoft Certified: Modern Desktop Administrator Associate)
- Experience with datacenter technologies (e.g., VMware, Hyper-V, Windows Server)
