Summary:
This contingent resource role supports moderately complex Financial Crimes initiatives within Wells Fargo’s Financial Institutions Group (FIG). The Financial Crimes Consultant will partner closely with Wells Fargo personnel to assess and mitigate AML/CFT, sanctions, fraud, and cyber-crime risks related to correspondent payment and clearing customers, with a strong focus on Latin America and the United States. The role contributes to large-scale planning efforts while ensuring regulatory compliance and sound risk management practices.
Responsibilities:
Financial Crimes Risk & Compliance
Participate in and consult on moderately complex Financial Crimes initiatives and deliverables, contributing to enterprise-level planning and execution.
Review, assess, and analyze complex Financial Crimes challenges requiring in-depth evaluation of variable risk factors.
Contribute to the resolution of escalated risk issues while leveraging a solid understanding of Financial Crimes policies, procedures, and regulatory requirements.
Correspondent Banking & Periodic Reviews
Lead periodic customer review processes by drafting relationship and risk memos.
Facilitate compliance discussions and customer review calls.
Analyze transaction activity and identify potential AML/CFT, sanctions, fraud, and cyber-related risks.
Research, document, and escalate higher-risk issues related to correspondent payment and clearing customers.
Risk Assessment & Issue Management
Evaluate the robustness of financial institution clients’ AML/CFT and sanctions compliance programs, including governance, control environments, and risk appetite.
Proactively identify emerging risk issues and collaborate with Relationship Managers and Senior Risk Officers to create and implement risk mitigation action plans.
Maintain awareness of industry, regulatory, and regional trends impacting Financial Crimes, particularly in Latin America.
Documentation & Systems
Ensure customer data and risk assessments are complete, accurate, and submitted in a timely manner within the customer risk management systems.
Produce high-quality written deliverables including call reports, customer risk summaries, and transaction reviews.
Collaboration & Culture
Partner with Wells Fargo stakeholders across Financial Crimes, risk, and business teams.
Support the bank’s mission to combat cyber-crime and evolving fraud typologies.
Promote a strong compliance-minded, risk-aware culture while supporting durable customer relationships.
Qualifications:
Applicants must be authorized to work for ANY employer in the U.S. This position is not eligible for visa sponsorship.
Proven experience in one or more of the following areas: Financial Crimes, AML, Fraud, Sanctions, Operational Risk, Anti-Bribery and Corruption, or equivalent practical experience.
Fluent in Spanish.
Strong written and verbal communication skills in both Spanish and English.
Experience drafting call reports, customer risk summaries, and conducting transaction analysis.
Copilot fluent.
Portuguese language proficiency. (preferred)
AML transactional analysis experience. (preferred)
Financial crimes or AML background with correspondent banking exposure. (preferred)
Experience supporting Customer Due Diligence (CDD) and Enhanced Due Diligence (EDD). (preferred)
Familiarity with the FFIEC Exam Manual; CAMS or other financial crimes certifications preferred. (preferred)
Experience managing AML/CFT risks in the Latin American region. (preferred)
Knowledge of crypto-related AML and financial crimes typologies. (preferred)
Strong analytical skills with exceptional attention to detail.
Proficiency with Microsoft Office, SharePoint, and related collaboration tools.
Ability to work independently in a fast-paced, evolving regulatory environment.
