GENERAL DESCRIPTION:
Patternmakers must have good vision and possess a strong aptitude for reading, writing and speaking the English language. A Patternmaker must have attributes of manual dexterity, depth perception and be capable of performing mathematical calculations pertaining to measurement and geometric shapes. Blue Print reading and interpretation of sketches and working drawings are key skills needed to perform duties as a Patternmaker. Additionally, experience with the safe and efficient operation of Woodworking Machinery (sanders, bandsaws, jointer, plainers, etc.), and hand and Power Equipment is needed. It is recommended that a Journeyman Patternmaker complete a Patternmakers Apprenticeship Program or have a minimum of 5 years on the job training. A Patternmaker must be physically capable of doing repetitive medium to heavy lifting, carrying and moving. Has successfully completed Pattern Maker Apprenticeship.
SPECIFIC DUTIES:
- Produces new Pattern Tooling and corresponding Core Boxes from Wood, Metal, Plastic or other suitable materials.
- Modifies or repairs existing tooling.
- Performs tool making procedures requiring fitting and assembling parts and make adjustments to meet requirements.
- Maintains pattern equipment by cleaning, repairing, rigging, adding battens, vents and gating.
- Creates or replaces worn core boxes with aluminum and plastic or other materials as needed to extended production capability.
- Works with the Layout and Engineering departments to adjust Pattern Tooling to comply with Layout reports and Engineering changes.
- Produces Jigs, Fixtures and Foundry Aids to support Foundry production.
PYSICAL DEMANDS:
- Lift up to 50 lbs. at waist level and up to 50 lbs. at shoulder level on a frequent basis when moving products
- Push or pull with up to 80 lbs. of force on an occasional basis when moving products
- Generate up to 80 lbs. of grip strength on an occasional basis with each hand while handling products
- Generate up to 15 lbs. of pinch strength on an occasional basis with each hand while handling products
- Display average coordination with both hands on a continuous basis while performing job tasks
- Perform elevated work on an occasional basis when handling products, cannot be afraid of heights
- Stoop, kneel, or squat on an occasional basis when handling products
- Reach forward and to the side on a frequent basis when handling products
- Stand on a continuous basis and walk on a frequent basis during each shift
- Able to perform repetitive tasks up to 12 hours per day
