Role Purpose
The Associate Stylist supports the daily operations of the NYC Test Salon by preparing materials, assisting stylists, and ensuring accurate basic documentation of client attributes. This role allows individuals to build foundational salon-testing skills while contributing to smooth workflow, high client satisfaction, and reliable testing outcomes.
It is designed as a developmental position with a clear progression path into the Stylist role once technical competency and test execution skills are demonstrated.
Key Responsibilities
Test Preparation & Support
- Prepare stations, tools, and products needed for daily test activities.
- Assist Stylists in documenting and define clients’ starting and final hair attributes (e.g., natural hair color, tonality, damage level, hair structure).
- Support test setup by organizing materials, maintaining cleanliness, and ensuring all items meet Test Salon standards.
- Perform simple test-related observations under supervision and record them accurately.
Client Coordination & Experience
- Welcome clients, guide them through registration, and support smooth check‑in/out processes.
- Conduct initial client intake questions to support stylist decision-making.
- Help manage the client flow during busy times and communicate timing updates when needed.
- Delivers the required number of clients per day and manage unexpected issues (late arrivals, attitude, unexpected color outcomes) with stylist or supervisor support.
- Provide a warm, professional experience and escalate any client concerns to the responsible stylist or floor supervisor.
Documentation & Operational Tasks
- Enter basic data into templates or systems with a focus on accuracy and completeness.
- Maintain organized records of materials used, product batches, and test tools.
- Assist with simple administrative duties such as preparing forms, updating schedules, or coordinating client reminders.
- Ensure testing stations remain organized, sanitized, and ready for use throughout the day.
Learning & Capability Development
- Learn Test Salon SOPs, safety requirements, and basic testing terminology.
- Build foundational understanding of Wella Company brands, product categories, and commonly used techniques.
- Observe test procedures performed by stylists and gradually take on tasks as skills improve.
- Actively participate in internal trainings to prepare for future Stylist responsibilities.
Team Contribution
- Support colleagues by helping with daily setup, cleanup, and product organization.
- Communicate effectively with stylists, managers, and peers to maintain smooth salon operations.
- Demonstrate reliability, punctuality, and a proactive attitude in assisting wherever needed.
Qualifications & Experience
- Experience in a salon environment or beauty‑related role, including exposure to color, care, cutting, or styling.
- 3 years of technical experience preferred; highly motivated candidates with strong foundational skills will also be considered.
- Comfortable interacting with clients and delivering a professional customer experience.
- Reliable, detail‑oriented, and able to work accurately in a dynamic, fast‑paced environment.
- Able to lift and carry up to 30 pounds as part of daily tasks.
- Must hold a valid NY State Cosmetology License.
