Recreation Therapist (Assisted Living)

Full-Time | Pay Based on Experience

Well•Spring, A Life Plan Community, is seeking a compassionate, energetic, and creative Recreation Therapist to join our Assisted Living team. In this role, you will create meaningful therapeutic recreation programs that promote residents' physical, emotional, cognitive, and social well-being while helping them maintain the highest possible quality of life.

Schedule

This is a full-time position that typically works 8:30 a.m. to 5:00 p.m. Some evenings and weekends are required to support resident programs and special events, so flexibility is important.

What You'll Do

• Assess residents' leisure interests, abilities, and needs to develop meaningful therapeutic recreation programs.
• Plan and lead engaging group and individual activities that promote physical, cognitive, emotional, and social well-being.
• Develop and maintain monthly activity calendars and coordinate special events.
• Document resident assessments, participation, and progress in the electronic medical record.
• Encourage resident participation while building meaningful relationships with residents and their families.
• Provide one-on-one visits and activities for residents who are unable or choose not to attend group programs.
• Transport residents to activities and community outings as needed.
• Collaborate with nursing and interdisciplinary team members to support resident care plans.
• Supervise Recreation Therapy interns and provide guidance throughout their clinical experience.
• Assist with activity supplies, program spaces, and volunteer coordination.

Qualifications

• Bachelor's degree in Recreation Therapy, Therapeutic Recreation, or a related field required.
• Current CTRS (Certified Therapeutic Recreation Specialist) certification required.
• At least one year of experience in therapeutic recreation, senior living, or a related recreation field is required.
• Excellent communication, organization, and interpersonal skills.
• Basic computer skills.
• Valid North Carolina driver's license with an acceptable driving record.
• Ability to transport residents safely during community outings.
• Ability to work a flexible schedule, including occasional evenings and weekends.

Physical Requirements

• Ability to stand for extended periods.
• Push wheelchairs and assist residents during activities.
• Lift activity supplies and equipment.
• Climb step stools or ladders for seasonal decorating.
• Complete required CPR and emergency response training.
