EFFECTIVE DATE: Immediately (Non-Union, 10-month position – works September through June annually)
Under the direction of the Mental Health Leader, the Student and Family Counsellor will function as a member of a multidisciplinary team providing support services to students and families through consultation/assessment, crisis intervention, counselling, attendance investigation, community liaison/networking, prevention programming, professional development and child/family advocacy. In addition, s/he will provide the necessary professional skills to assist students in problem solving and conflict resolution in a safe and healthy manner to ensure student success. The successful candidate must be comfortable counselling virtually over a secure platform. They must be prepared to carry out duties in a face-to-face format, virtually, or using a combination of the two.

Requirements
- Relevant graduate or undergraduate degree (e.g. BSW, MSW, Master in Counselling, or related)
- Registered member in good standing with the Ontario College of Social Workers and Social Service Workers or College of Registered Psychotherapists of Ontario
- Experience working and counselling virtually
- Experience working with children/youth experiencing social/emotional difficulties
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills
- Ability to work independently
- Demonstrated ability to work with a multidisciplinary team
- Good computer skills, including word processing, communications software, Internet and e-mail
- Excellent discretion and ability to maintain confidentiality
- Familiarity with the Ministry’s mental health and addictions strategies
- Able to practice from a trauma-informed approach
- Act as a point person for behaviour crisis-related responses when appropriate
- Collaborate to develop alternatives / programming for students who are on long-term suspension
- Minimum of 3 years working experience in the field
- Native Specialization within Social Work or Counselling Degree Program
- Experience in providing counselling services from an evidence informed practice perspective
- Experience working with schools and/or learners at the elementary or secondary school level
- Knowledge of the history of the Indigenous Peoples of Canada and experience supporting Indigenous learners
