Position Description
We are seeking an experienced Manufacturing Engineering Manager to lead the manufacturing engineering function at our Shelbyville plant. This role is responsible for driving process and tooling development, capacity planning, and continuous improvement to achieve safety, quality, delivery, and cost (SQDC) objectives. The manager will provide end-to-end support from new product quotation through launch and stable mass production, while collaborating closely with Operations, Quality, Supply Chain, and Product/Technical teams.
Responsibilities
- Develop the annual engineering business plan and expense budget; assign tasks and manage engineering resources.
- Lead manufacturing process and tooling development; ensure costs meet or exceed quoted targets; provide cost inputs for new product quotes and design changes.
- Drive continuous improvement initiatives to reduce scrap, increase productivity, and improve equipment uptime.
- Monitor equipment utilization and capacity; provide technical leadership in lean process design and PFMEA reviews.
- Coordinate schedules and share information across departments to achieve plant objectives.
- Approve equipment specifications and manage capital budgets for equipment purchases.
- Provide training to the team; ensure compliance with Environmental, Health & Safety (EHS) policies; perform other duties as assigned.
Required Qualifications
- Bachelor’s degree in Engineering or a related field; typically 10 years of relevant experience, or an advanced degree with 4 years of experience.
- Strong background in manufacturing engineering, including process development, tooling, lean manufacturing, PFMEA, and capital equipment management.
- Proficiency in Microsoft Office and engineering-related applications.
- Strong communication, organizational, and project management skills; ability to manage multiple projects simultaneously.
- Ability to maintain confidentiality and successfully complete required background and drug screenings.
Preferred Qualifications
- 10 years of experience in automotive component R&D or manufacturing; 5 years with electric compressors or related products preferred.
- Familiarity with U.S. OEM technical standards (GM, Ford, Tesla, etc.) and experience supporting customer projects.
- Ability to independently resolve product or project issues and ensure compliance with relevant regulations.
- Customer-oriented mindset with a track record of collecting feedback and driving improvement opportunities.
- Strong problem-solving skills, adaptability under pressure, and effective cross-functional collaboration.
- Excellent technical communication skills; near-native English proficiency (Japanese language skills are a plus).
- Proactive, innovative, and responsible with sensitivity to cross-cultural collaboration.

Pay: $150,000.00 - $180,000.00 per year
