Job Summary
We are seeking a compassionate and accountable House Manager to oversee daily operations at our 12-bed sober living residence for women. This role plays a critical part in creating a safe, structured, and recovery-oriented environment. The House Manager serves as a leader, mentor, and enforcer of policies while fostering a culture of peer support and accountability. Note: Due to the nature of the residence and the population served, this position is open to female-identifying applicants only, in alignment with VARR housing standards and safety protocol.
Core Responsibilities
House Oversight & Safety
· Monitor resident behavior, conduct room checks, and ensure adherence to house rules.
· Respond to emergencies or crises and follow incident reporting procedures.
· Maintain safety logs, chore schedules, and resident curfews.
· Conduct and document urine screenings and breathalyzer tests when needed.
Documentation & Communication
· Maintain accurate records in the communication log, incident reports, and sign-in/out logs.
· Document resident intake, rule infractions, and behavioral concerns.
· Communicate with the Program Director/Operator about any critical issues or supply needs.
Resident Support & Structure
· Support residents in their personal recovery goals with empathy and clear boundaries.
· Conduct orientation and welcome sessions for new residents.
· Encourage participation in community meetings, chores, and peer-led support.
· Serve as a consistent role model for sober living values.
Operational Responsibilities
· Ensure cleanliness and organization of common areas; participate in light cleaning.
· Maintain inventory of household supplies and report needs proactively.
· Oversee household upkeep and report maintenance issues.
Qualifications
· Minimum of 2 years of continuous sobriety (if in recovery).
· High School Diploma or GED required.
· Valid driver’s license with clean record.
· CPR and Naloxone certification preferred (or willingness to obtain within 30 days).
· Familiarity with 12-Step programs (AA, NA) and recovery principles.
· Strong leadership, time management, and conflict resolution skills.
· Ability to maintain professional boundaries and resident confidentiality.
· Experience in residential or recovery housing preferred.
Schedule
Available for rotating shifts including evenings, overnights, weekends, and holidays. Expected to attend monthly staff meetings and training sessions.
Compliance
This position is aligned with the standards of the National Alliance for Recovery Residences (NARR) and the Virginia Association of Recovery Residences (VARR). House Managers play a vital role in upholding the integrity, safety, and community environment required for VARR certification.
Pay: $15.00 - $19.00 per hour
