Schedule: Monday–Friday, 3:00 PM – 6:00 PM (approx.)
Hours: 10–15 hours per week
Compensation: $20–$25/hour (based on experience)

We Got Next Sports (WGX) is a youth development organization dedicated to positively influencing the lives of young people through the vehicle of sports. Our programs combine athletics, academics, and social-emotional learning (SEL) to create safe, engaging spaces where youth can grow on and off the court.
Serving communities across New York City, WGX focuses on teamwork, discipline, leadership, and personal growth while providing high-quality afterschool and enrichment programming.
Position Summary:
WGX is seeking dynamic and skilled Activity Specialists to lead high-quality enrichment activities in areas such as sports, STEM, arts, dance, step, fitness, or other specialty areas.
The Activity Specialist is responsible for designing and facilitating structured, engaging, and age-appropriate programming that promotes skill development, creativity, and confidence in youth. This role plays a critical part in enhancing the overall program experience and aligning activities with WGX’s youth development and SEL framework.
Key Responsibilities:
- Design and lead specialized activities (sports, STEM, arts, dance, fitness, etc.) aligned with WGX program goals
- Deliver structured lesson plans that build skills progressively over time
- Create a safe, inclusive, and engaging environment for all participants
- Manage group behavior using positive youth development and restorative approaches
- Track participation and adjust activities to maintain high engagement
- Collaborate with Group Leaders and site staff to support overall program structure
- Prepare participants for showcases, performances, games, or culminating events
- Maintain organization of materials and equipment related to specialty area
- Participate in staff meetings, trainings, and professional development sessions
Qualifications & Certifications:
- High School Diploma required; Associate’s or Bachelor’s degree preferred (Education, Recreation, Sports Management, or related field)
- Minimum of 2 years experience teaching or leading activities with youth
- Demonstrated expertise in at least one specialty area (sports, STEM, arts, dance, etc.)
- Strong group management and facilitation skills
- Excellent communication and interpersonal skills
- Ability to engage diverse groups of youth across different age ranges
- Reliable, organized, and professional
Preferred Skills (Not Required)
- Coaching experience (basketball, flag football, or other sports)
- Experience with social-emotional learning (SEL) integration
- Background working in NYC DOE or DYCD-funded programs
- Experience preparing youth for performances, competitions, or showcases
- Bilingual (Spanish/English)
Physical & Compliance Requirements
- Ability to actively lead and demonstrate activities (movement, standing, physical engagement)
- Ability to supervise youth in both indoor and outdoor environments
- Keep active standing with DOE/ DOH
