An underwriter applies quantitative and qualitative analysis along with sound underwriting principals to evaluate new and renewal account risks. The incumbent manages a book of business for growth, profitability, and retention. The underwriter initiates and handles agent relationships through service calls and occasional in-person visits. The person in this position provides a thorough, documented risk analysis on new and renewal accounts leading to a recommendation on coverage terms and premium.

Expected salary for the mid-level underwriting level position is $76,000 to $95,000. Salary is based on experience and education.

Qualifications
- At least three years commercial underwriting experience in all business lines
- Working knowledge of NCCI and state bureau manuals, rules and classifications.
- Experience with loss sensitive rating programs.
- CPCU, ARM, CIC or similar certifications preferred.
- Expert skills in Microsoft Office Suite, excel experience required.
- Excellent communication and influencing skills, verbal and written.
- Excellent critical thinking, problem solving, analytical skills.
- Bachelor’s degree in finance, marketing, business, or equivalent experience preferred.
